    Hey man, just wanted to check in and say that this video convinced me to tackle my rebuild myself. I got the Pivot works kit and a Racetech spring for my weight. Went and got it charged with nitrogen this morning. I did find that in my shock, it already had aftermarket valving and that friction seal that came with the kit was too wide for the racetech gold valve. I trimmed it down to fit and havent had a problem. It looks like your KX videos are kinda old now, but PLEASE dont take them down, we still need these 99-02 specific videos. Thanks again man!!!

    Noticed if you put your valve with seal installed in the freezer, it shrinks up good! Thanks, for putting out content for kx250. I have a 2000 kx250 and your info is great! Just bought your vid on top end and worked great for step by step tutorial. Another 70 hours before the bottom end is ready for a rebuild. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻

    Bleeding the air out of the shock with a syringe works really well! I went down to my local grocery store and the pharmacy department gave me a couple free oral syringes that fit perfect in the bleeder port I just rebuilt the shock on my 2005 yamaha r6 a few days ago, installed a race tech gold valve... This was my first time ever servicing a gas shock, it was time consuming but not as difficult as I first imagined... It was such a good feeling to have the shock all put back together, clean and ready to ride. Just wanted to thank you for making this video definitely picked up some good tips that made the job easier...

    MatthewMCRepair Matt, I seen in Rocky Mountain ATVs video that the bladder requires nitrogen. I kinda skipped throughout your video, but did you use just plain air and did it require a certain PSI?

  • @HTMR

    @HTMR

    Gorbachev I took it to a shop who filled it with nitrogen to 175psi for $5. Don't use plain air.

    Try working the shock to rid any trapped air bubbles. Leave bladder out and also the shock cap at other end. Use the bleed hole at end of procedure.

    Best way to keep the valve stack in order is use a Philip screwdriver and slide the stack onto it. Plus cleaning the shock before working on it helps keeping debris from getting into places.

    Is the shock really springy like a pogo stick? That would mean the shock is not dampening at all.

    42:45: Does the tightening torque of the nut affect damping characteristic, is it important to maintain the exact torque spec to get the needed damping, so the nut torque is some sort of adjustment or doesn't matter if I tighten it a little bit more?

    hey matthew, i have a question, i want to do it for my kxf 250f unitrak shock, i dont understand in the time when you fill with oil and put the piston assembly, when do you close it? i mean when you purge, with compresed piston or descompresed? i cant explain it, look at 52:40 minute, in that part its my question, doesnt vary the level of fluid? because if its descompressed it will be more space for fluid, if it compressed less space for fluid, ? please help me, im getting crazy hahah!!! thanks! really good your video

  • @HTMR

    @HTMR

    9 жыл бұрын

    Monica Armentano The piston allows for fluid to pass. Just fill it up to get rid of all air. You want a bit of fluid to spill out.

    Hi Mat. Thx for the video. I did everything like you did but have huge problems with the shock. at 51:38 in your video, you can push your rod down / up quite easily. I cant. Its such a huge resistance - its possible but with a lot of force only (definitly not like in your vid). Do you have any idea what could have happened? :( Btw I am not using real shock oil. I used Maxima 5w Fork oil (I am quite low on budget and still had some Maxima oil left). Could this be the reason? The viscosity difference compared to shock oil? I am totally sure I did everything right (like you in the video)... I completed the shock and also did the bleeding process - but still its VERRY hard to push the rod inside and it wont come out again. But I dont have the nitrogen in yet... only air with ~60 psi. Greetings & thx again.

    +Nunuatak Nonatakaa Are you doing it fully assembled and air in the bladder? If so, then yes it will take both arms to compress it. Will it extend on its own?

    +MatthewMCRepair hey Matthew! I gave up on this (actually the first time - I even disassembled the engine but maybe I have not talent with shocks). I dont know what exactly went wrong. When I put the rod inside I couldnt move it up or down without extremely heavy force. This went so far, that when I tryed to disassembled the shock again (because obviously something went wrong) I couldnt slide out the rod without opening the bleeder screw and letting out the oil first, because it was so sticky inside. Finally, I gave the shock to a service specialist. This was a good idea, since it was very cheap for me because everything was already disassembled and replaced (the seals) and I also needed the shock oil and the nitrogen charge. So this guy could do it for me for only 70 euros (all completely) which is ~80 $. He also noticed an huge scratch in the rod. First he wanted to sell me a new rod for 220$ but I told him that this is no option, so he grinded the whole rod and its looking like new now :) So I am very happy. Next time I will go there again... definitly worth the 70$ dollars (it was +10$ for the grinding). But thank you for helping / assisting. Like always, your videos are the best resource for a DIY men like me (except shocks now lol) and it helped me disassembling the shock which saved a lot of money. Greetings from germany! Mike
