Hello and welcome to the Oh La La Top summer tank top tutorial!
In this video I'll show you all the steps for kntting a gorgeous summer tank top that is quick to knit. This is a beginner friendly project and will walk you through everything you need to make your own summer top :)
You can choose to either to the top with a regular or criss cross back, for the criss cross back you just work the shoulder straps a bit longer.
The top is knitted bottom up in the round on 4.5 mm (US 7) needles with 100% cotton yarn held double. When the body is complete stitches are bound off for the back and then the upper front is worked separately back and forth. Lastly, the straps are worked to desired length, you can choose if you want to have a regular or criss cross back.
Hope you enjoy this knitting tutorial! Thank you for watching! :)

FINISHED GARMENT MEASUREMENTS:
a. Bust circumference: 70.5 (75.5) 80 (84.5) 89.5 (94) 99 (103.5) cm / 28 (30) 32 (34) 36 (37.5) 39.5 (41.5)”.
b. Length from upper back edge to hem: 29 (31) 32 (34) 34 (36) 36 (38) cm / 11.5 (12) 12.5 (13.5) 13.5 (14) 14 (15)”.
c. Strap width: 2.5 cm / 1”.
d. Strap length: Adjustable.
The design is intended to have quite a bit of negative ease around the bust, so choose the size that is 8-12 cm / 3-4.5” smaller than your bust circumference for a tight fit. The fabric is very stretchy, so it’s going to adapt to your body but remember to do a gauge swatch first to check which needle size you need to get the correct measurements.
Sample in size S, Kika has a bust circumference of 87 cm / 34”.
SUGGESTED YARN:
150 (165) 200 (225) 250 (275) 300 (325) g of Sandnes Garn Mandarin Petit (100% cotton - 180 m/ 197 yds per 50 g) in color Natur 1012 or Pudderrosa 3511.
The top is worked holding 2 strands of cotton yarn together.
Yarn alternatives:
You can for example also use Drops Design Safran or Hjertegarn Cotton nr.8.

This helped so much! I’m going to use this technique to make a short summer dress as well! I figure if you can make a tank top, you can make it a bit longer into a dress! You could also make a halter with those straps, either tie them around your neck or make them shorter to sew them together. I never use patterns, I mostly freehand everything

I was very excited to knit this top, especially as I am new to garment knitting and this tutorial seems so very doable. However, maybe I'm reading the pattern wrong but it doesn't seem to be size inclusive. I have a 45" bust but the biggest size in the pattern is 41.5". I am planning to make this with a worsted weight yarn (held single) and I know the finished fabric will stretch but I'm a bit disappointed that I spend $$$ on a pattern that doesn't seem to be inclusive. ETA - I re-read the pattern and remembered negative ease (garment newbie here!). I almost make it to the 41.5" measurement so I'll have to see how it fits in the end. 🤞🏽

Top looks like a nice & very easy knit (being an experienced knitter), but won't yarn held double like this result in a bit too thick - and thus hot - fabric for summer..? For me it would be, I fear ;) So I'd surely make it with single strand yarn; I have plenty of 100% cotton yarns (I love cotton!), incl. Safran, so should be able to make this from my stash :) Btw, I find 'ylivetokavennus' way easier than SSK (which is really not used at all in Finnish patterns), just a personal preference, though IMO that'd probably be easier for newbies, too. :) And I do the same kind of knots when continuing yarn too, I *hate* weaving in ends so the less of them, the better ;)

I am actually a bit sad to see that you do not try to make adjustments to make sure that you don’t get the stripes when knitting back and forth. It is too obvious that you have different gauge on knit rows and purl rows. Try to use a needle 0,5 mm smaller for your purl rows.
