Hats seem to be a favorite to knit. Mine too. That is because there are so many different patterns and variety in hat creation. In this video we will knit a beanie. We are actually going to make a slouchy beanie so that it is not so close to head on the back side.
For this hat, we are using the rib pattern and the stockinette pattern. The rib pattern is used for the border while the stockinette pattern is used for the body of the hat. The video shows the knitting for an average woman. The numbers in the brackets below show for a child and a man.
*Steps*
MATERIAL
5.5mm needles
6.5mm needles
BORDER
cast on 78 stitches (72, 81) on 5.5mm needles
Row 1-22: *(k3, p3), repeat * till end of row
BODY
move stitches to 6.5mm needles
Knit stockinette pattern till hat measures 10" (9", 10.5")
RS: knit all
WS: purl all
CROWN
Row 1: *(k37, k2tog), repeat * till end of row
Row 2: purl all
Row 3: *(k2, k2tog), repeat * till end of row
Row 4: purl all
Row 5: *(k1, k2tog), repeat * till end of row
Row 6: purl all
Row 7: *k2tog, repeat * till end of row
Row 8: purl all
Row 9: *k2tog, repeat * till end of row
Row 10: purl all
Complete by cutting 3-4" of extra yarn and sewing it together. Weave in all ends and clean up.
