How To Keep Your Heart Open In Hell - Ram Dass
Ram Dass first went to India in 1967. He was still Dr. Richard Alpert, a prominent Harvard psychologist and psychedelic pioneer with Dr. Timothy Leary. He continued his psychedelic research until that fateful Eastern trip in 1967, when he traveled to India. In India, he met his guru, Neem Karoli Baba, affectionately known as Maharajji, who gave Ram Dass his name, which means “servant of God.” Everything changed then - his intense dharmic life started, and he became a pivotal influence on a culture that has reverberated with the words “Be Here Now” ever since. Ram Dass’ spirit has been a guiding light for three generations, carrying along millions on the journey, helping to free them from their bonds as he works through his own.
Since 1968, Ram Dass has pursued a panoramic array of spiritual methods and practices from potent ancient wisdom traditions, including bhakti or devotional yoga focused on the Hindu deity Hanuman; Buddhist meditation in the Theravadin, Mahayana Tibetan, and Zen Buddhist schools, and Sufi and Jewish mystical studies. Perhaps most significantly, his practice of karma yoga or spiritual service has opened up millions of other souls to their deep, yet individuated spiritual practice and path. Ram Dass continues to uphold the boddhisatva ideal for others through his compassionate sharing of true knowledge and vision. His unique skill in getting people to cut through and feel divine love without dogma is still a positive influence on many people from all over the planet.

Something I never realized before now: it’s ok to be sad and happy at the same time in this world. I don’t have to constantly find reasons for things or fight with myself to be more optimistic. It’s a new definition of “allowing” that I never really took note of before. If that makes sense? Awesome speech, regardless.

Same here because as you grow older, you will more and more experience the loss of loved family, friends, and pets. And if you don't acknowledge that this is the way life is, you will wallow in your sadness. So you might as well embrace it because it's not going to get any better. And your sadness will never go away and so it becomes part of your life as a bitter-sweet melancholy, and at the same time, that doesn't have to affect your happiness.

(and also highly relatable btw, at an intellectual and emotional level) - only, what these guys are talking about is something that transcends even our judgements of this current situation.. we are so subjective and anthropocentric and yet we have the capacity to see that: our own inevitable subjectivity and also the notion of a more universal perspective.. once you don't merely conceive of this universal / non-dual perspective as an intellectual abstraction but actually experience it yourself, you will accept all of it as perfect, too - i struggle to reconcile this with my "natural" reaction to the evils in the world, every day.. the disgust you speak of (and immense grief) are hard not to feel.. but if you've ever had a transcendental experience you'll know that there is a greater perspective and understanding of all that is, not from our little human point of view... I find it utterly astonishing and tremendously gorgeous how we all gather here from different places of the world and share this profound experience called life. In this moment, right now. Through this video. We are seemingly different yet we all fundamentally have longing for the one thing that connects us all together - love. Through that we can see a glimpse of ourselves even in our worst enemies eyes. And there it lies; an everlasting truth. You know that behind those harsh words and actions hides part of the same love that you feel, part of the same love that you once thought you're missing and thus felt a deep longing for. Give that, be that. It's our essence.

This video feels like it came at the exact right time. With everything going on in the world right now, I felt overwhelmed at all the suffering in the world, and also at the potential for more suffering in the future. Listening to the video allowed me to open my heart a little and to feel the humanity within each of us, within myself. To be able to appreciate the troubling emotions of the troubling times. See the suffering and inhumanity of the world fully and to let myself cry. To let myself see the beauty of the world, when I take a step outside and see the birds flying in the sky and the trees dancing in the wind. To look at all of life and be able to say how its all perfect. to see the pain and joy and still be able to say and this too...

I had a dream of a tsunami a week before my dear cat died and it was one of the most memorable dreams I've ever had because I felt genuine fear for my real life as I was experiencing that. I now consider it as a sign from God that I should have prepared my heart. I went through that fresh, raw grief with these words in my heart. I can only trust the process and have faith in the Universe at this point.

Wow my star family… SAME! Put my beloved cat in the ground Saturday. Had more grief to express than I could make sense of… cumulative I believe it becomes… or at least opens the place where we can experience other losses that coke to bear witness and release more along with the current grief. The perfection of EVERY word, person, interaction, feeling, etc etc,.. is all perfect - and easier to notice during such intense moments of the alchemy of releasing our grief, courageously having all the feelings we can, so that we may release and let go, again… and again… until the final letting go … yes indeed… we are walking each other home. 🌟🙏🌟

Unfortunately, Ram was led by darkness and didn't realize it. He wanted to be of course light-filled, but some of the things he did show this. It's a dangerous world, our souls are at stake. Spiritual awakening is usually not what it appears. Only Jesus Christ can open our eyes through repentance and cleansing of sins. See, many things these days omit the reality of sin. The new age industry that Ram Dass was a part of is a deception of darkness to take many souls to hell. Seek the Lord Jesus Christ, He is the Alpha and Omega. I agree the world is a beautiful place, but it is also saturated with darkness and deception. It's not just polarity as is used in new age circles, there's a concerted effort to take souls to hell and most sadly go there. It's a real place in the afterlife and spirit world because most refuse the love, mercy, and forgiveness of God to follow their own flesh and the world.
We are in such dark times yet this year I have opened my heart and I am happier than I have ever been. Things are so bad I’m not afraid anymore. And stepping past those fears has allowed me to feel more love and experience more love from the world than I ever have. I try to look past the hatred and tyranny and see the beauty in this world and have hope. If more of us can do this I think we can be okay.

Many years ago I had the pleasure of sitting with Ram Das and a handful of others in a walnut grove in upper Ojai at the Happy Valley Foundation. It was like sitting with a friend who was sharing stories from a recent journey. One couldn't help but feel at ease, light reflecting light. Having sat with many different spiritual teachers over many years, I have to say, Ram Das was one of my favorite. There are mere academics and then there are the truly awakened and Ram Das was/is surely the latter.
Thank you so much for this. Being a late gen Z I've been struggling a lot because I've always been really sensitive to the world's suffering and it seems like everything is our responsibility now, how to fix it. It's overwhelming. I recently was thinking how I've been feeling like living in hell because I only see people partying nonstop around me and a lot of indifference and insensitivity towards the current crisis. But i know it's all perfect. I do. This has been a beautiful reminder and I was begging for it. Thank you

compassion for me comes in the knowledge that those who perpetuate suffering are too ignorant or traumatized to be aware of how horrible being cruel actually feels in the body. when i yell at a stranger on the street for pissing me off, it makes me feel gross inside with guilt so i apologize and use that discomfort to improve upon being present for the next time so i don't repeat that action . we are socialized to be ruthless and competitive in this culture - the ones who cannot realize that this is wrong, or who delude themselves into not seeing it or justifying it - truly they are the ones to be pitied (from a safe distance if need be. we can offer others forgiveness while still keeping ourselves safe.)

Psychedelics are the reason why i didn’t take my life when i was at my end. I was stripped of my ego and saw the beauty of life and interconnectivity and even though i still battle anxiety and depression, I’m doing better everyday and will never think in such a self destructive way again.

We all have different perspectives, how I see things might not be the way you see it. But my opinion would be, get yourself an aid (IA) because most successful people seek the knowledge and skills of professionals and claim to achieve their success without any help.

@Thomas Smith that's right, working with a professional is best compared to none. They have a wealth of information which helps a lot in creating wealth, I know Anna and I'm happy they mentioned her here. Working with her made me understand the fact that you can't compare growing your investments yourself to that of an IA
Best video I have ever watched on KZread. It eloquently put into words what I’ve been trying to convey to my loved ones for a while. Thank you! Love for all!
As I go deeper into the meaning, I cry tears of understanding. The tears that the universe might just make sense with such a simple but complex theory.

My god this was beautiful. I never thought about that. With everything i have been through i kind of gave up on love. But now i understand that being hurt is part of my journey and that i can pass that being happy and sad. Just allowing the suffering of the past and the happiness of the present
Thank you. I am going through a phase of suffering and it's really hard to be open to *what is..* God bless Ram Dass and everyone who puts the content together on this channel. I really liked that Ramana got brought up. He is my Master. He said to a devotee who was grieving a child who had just passed away and his devotee asked, What is God?: "What is, is God." If you're going through a tough time right now, I pray that you gain the strength, courage, and wisdom to go through it and learn from it, grow from it. All my love, Naye.
This was beautiful. I’ve heard this audio many times but to see the art go with it took everything to a new level. Brought me to tears. Thank you all for what you do. Much love to all ♥️♥️♥️

This was such an absolutely breathtaking video that brought me to tears. Your art is absolutely beautiful and added a whole new dimension to this video. I’m so grateful for this, thank you
Aaw that resonantes so much with me. I've come to have that feeling of everyrhing being just perfect, I can see it and that awareness it's so freeing. There's so much calm pace, understanging and justice for everyrhing and everyone starting by ourselves.
I realized at the end,, watching this video was meant to be for me. It caused both tears of joy and sadness... thank you for all you do...thank you ❤ namaste
When I was very young I learned how many children died of starvation every day. I think I was maybe too young because that became my counter argument when anything bad happened in my life or to the people around me. It made the suffering closest to me seem so insignificant and petty. It got worse as I grew older and learned about so many other forms of suffering. I’m not sure I’ve ever truly grieved the loss of anything in my life; family, friends, opportunities, possessions, etc. I want so badly to believe and live the message of this talk, to not constantly feel overwhelmingly broken for the world, to have enough space in my heart for myself and my family but I think it’s going to take some time. I’m still not sure this way of thinking isn’t just a coping mechanism. And then I think if it is, is that really so bad?

@@carineiriarte6167 One of the most amazing discoveries in my life was when I found out that a person being tortured goes into a transcendent state beyond the realm of body and mind. We could say, I suppose, that this is just another "coping" mechanism to escape pain. However, the way it was described took the experiencer & me, as the listener, to a different level of consciousness altogether. In this consciousness is the awareness of the boundless love that surrounds us all, always.

Your illustrations are captivating and reminded me of one of my favorite movie quotes from The Great Gatsby- “I was within and without, simultaneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life.”
the illustrations are so beautifully done, what a talented artist it add so much to the concept to these videos

Thank you for making such a digestible version of such an amazing talk.
This video just had a profound effect on me. An overwhelming outburst of joy/love/sorrow all combined had me in floods of tears. It's all one.
JUST INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL…you capture Ram Dass’ words perfectly Thank you 🙏❤️✨
"We're all just walking each other home." That line really drives the message home after listening to this talk. Touched me deeply to understand what it actually means, because it's not (only) about keeping vigil with the dying. It is about what this Leela we call life is all about in any moment. We're the one undivided consciousness helping itself realize what it truly is - all of us, regardless of whether we're aware of it or not. It's incredibly beautiful. 💗

I really appreciate this one a lot. It's so refreshing to hear a spiritual perspective that doesn't offer an excuse for suffering or attempt to hand-wave it away. As Terence McKenna once said, "There are no extra people on the planet." Gentleness and compassion in the face of duality is key. Also I haven't watched an AfterSkool vid in a while - I think your artistic skills are improving! Great video. :)
