How to keep your dashcam running without draining the car battery

Most cars power outlet turns off when the car is off, and while you can wire it directly to the battery, it's not something I'd like to do cause I don't want to drain my battery or mess up my wiring..
And so I found a cheap but effective solution! Watch till the end!

Awesome!! Thank you for sharing! My ex keeps hammering nails into my tires. 2 vehicles and 4 tires now in 2 months. I’m 43 I know for certain this is what’s happening amongst all the other crap he’s doing to me with trackers, ect. I appreciate you showing this so I can catch him in action. So thank you!

Hi there - this is an ingenious setup. Does the Power Bank gets charged when the car is on? Thank you

Hello! And yes, that's the idea.

I've seen videos of people using USB-battery packs to power their dash cam instead of setting up a hardwire kit to hook up to their car battery which will eventually kill their battery. I'm at the point where I'm trying to find the most affordable battery. I'd like to get a USB lithium ion portable battery, but those have certain risks related to fires. But the other dedicated batteries are so much more expensive. I don't want to have to pay $300 just to set up my dash cam.

You just need to select a power pack that doesn't turn off when it doesn't detect a power draw. But so far, I have used this setup and haven't had any issues. Just to make sure my dash cam keeps recording. I also tried the Bluetti EB3A, it's small and compact. For the most part it's just the PowerBank.

Io ho scelto di alimentare direttamente il powerbank dall'accendisigari e sull'uscita a 5 volt ho collegato la Dashcam aggiungendo un interruttore per staccare l'alimentazione quando sono in garage

@rolandocavallo56 Yes, there are vehicles where the socket remains active even when the vehicle is off. Being in a colder climate, though, I made that mistake once and came back to a dead battery. For most vehicles nowadays, the socket loses power when the vehicle is not running.

I'm using the EasyLonger Power Bank, it's in the description if you want to check it out. I've also used thr Bluetti EB3A, but sometimes Bluetti turns off because of the low power draw.

It only lasts 3 hrs. Not worth buying.

I only use it when I go to a store, and I want to keep my dashcam running. If i know I'll be gone longer, maybe overnight, I use my Bluetti power station.

@@dadstoysnthings instead you could TURN ON continuously using a mini solar panel, solar controller and your power bank.

@tnamen1307 You could, I've tried that with my 40W solar panel to trickle charge the power bank during sunny days. For this current setup, I'm able to hide the power bank and even the power station from view.
