    How can I pair two powercell8 batteries together for longer recording time while the car is sitting? Is it as simple as connecting two of these things together via 2 prong connector? Also can they detect they’re paired?

    When in parking mode, if the USB Cable was used to power the dash cams, should I remove it from cigarette lighter socket? Also, if using the USB cable, does the dash cams work/record at the same time as the battery box is getting charged (when the car is on)?

    Cell degradation. Possible venting but LiFeP04 is pretty safe. Combustion is almost impossible, the worst that could happen is the electrolyte would burn but that's rare. The venting does release nasty toxic fumes from my understanding

    Your accessory (or device) should not exceed the current rating of the circuit. Most dashcam's consume 250-500mA (less than 1A). So tapping the dashcam onto a circuit that is rated for 5A, 7A, 10A, or 20A will work fine.

    $350 for 96wh??? Even for LiFeP04 this is way too big and expensive. I think I could build a similar sized A123 26650 pack at 96wh and those cells are the least energy dense LiFeP04 cells around (they're 2.5Ah 30C power cells) or I could use something like an IP2368 and build a LifeP04 pack out of 2000mah 18650 cells. That would give me QC3.0/PD/AFC and every other fast charging protocol so I could use a PD/QC decoy trigger to pull 12V. I don't see any advantage to the dashcam running off the car battery while the car is running....if the car is running its charging the pack at a higher rate than it could ever discharge and LiFeP04 cycle life is so long that it would be 10 years before you'd drive the cells below 80% of original capacity unless you drive for a living.

    Hi I was wondering is it possible for the battery to charge by an external battery pack? Also is there dash cams that constantly record even when parked? I want video footage saved 24/7 not just when someone walks by or when damage is inflicted on the car.

  • @dial2fast

    @dial2fast

    There is no specific charger to charge the battery pack outside the vehicle. You can source one with the proper voltage and current to charge it if you know what the requirements are. For parking mode recording, you really don't want it to record 24/7 for 2 reasons. One is the runtime. Whether you use car battery or battery pack, it might give you 5-6 hours of runtime. Second is the video being overwritten. Because you are using a memory card for storage, depending on card size, you might get 4-5 hours of recording time. Then it will begin over writing the files.

    You can install it wherever you want in your vehicle. But considering the length of the power cable and amount of space needed, you have to see what works best for you. Some people put it in the glove box, or behind the center dash also. I put all my battery packs under the seat and it works for me.

    @@TheGforce013 As I read it , I thought the poster was suggesting using a cheaper deep cycle battery to replace the LiFePo4 battery and not the car battery.. That's where I was getting the extra wiring...I didn't interpret it as replacing the original car battery and forget the LiFePo4 battery. Though now that I am typing this I see that he could've have meant that too ... So if that's the case your could replace the your car battery with the deep cycle battery and run the dashcam off the car battery with a voltage regulator cutout.. Guess you could achieve the same run times if the marine battery is sized accordingly. In the long run might work out to the same cost as buying 4-5 deep cycle battery over the life of the LiFePo4.

    Using an AGM battery only addresses one issue I talked about in the video which is wear on the battery with the constant discharge/charged cycle of using parking mode. These days all cars with auto start/stop feature is equipped with AGM battery including my 2019 Odyssey. By using an AGM battery, you are still going to only get about 4-5 hours of parking mode runtime. Also as the AGM battery drain to 11.9-12.0V it's at 50% charge just like a regular flooded battery and if it gets drained further, the car will struggle to start. I can tell you from experience when I had parking mode running off the Odyssey's AGM battery, I parked it at the airport and the dashcam drained it to 12.0V at which point it shut off as it's supposed to. After I came back from an 8 day trip, the vehicle couldn't start. Luckily I had a battery pack jump starter to jump the car. It's good to have these conversation and I want to share with you the pros and cons of the different setup.
