How To Keep RAM FRY Alive: Cleaning the fry box

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Hey everyone!
This week’s video is all about RAMS!
I show you one of the most important steps in ensuring that your newly hatched fry make it through that crucial first week.
Let me know if you have any further questions about anything that I’ve done here.
I have a lot more Ram videos planned for the near future so look out!
DID YOU KNOW:
- The German Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus ramirezii) was discovered in 1948 and was named after Manuel Ramirez who was the first collector and importer of this beautiful fish:)

    I had my electric blue breed with my german blue and after 2 days they hatched and then waited 8 days for them to be free swimming and some of them would jump up and fall back down but they wouldnt actually become free swimming. I put them in a larger container but didnt realize my other fish could suck them out and they all got eaten... do you know why they wait 8 full days and not be free swimming? The water temp was consistently 80deg and nitrates were good. I think this time i might feed first bites on day 3-4 of being wigglers even if not free swimming to make sure they didnt all not become free swimming due to lack of food. Any thoughts or experience with ram fry taking a long time to go from wigglers to free swimming?

My only question is, what is the importance of using community water on the hatchlings and how often do you use this method? Also, isn’t it better to use fresh water all the time like 50% water change every after feeding time? Thanks for your time and for answering my questions.

    Do you maybe know what could be the reason why fry never get to free swimming stage? They just died when they should start free swim. Sometimes everything goes well, but many times recently they just die at that stage (days 4-5-6-7) I am now trying your method with changing water more frequently from aquarium water and I will see the result. By the way, how many microsiemens have your breeding water?

  • @JustinsFishRoom

    @JustinsFishRoom

    2 жыл бұрын

    TDS is usually under 100 ppm. This sometimes happens due to a variety of different things including water being too cold or too hot, too much ammonia in the water and even if simply coming down to poor genetics. Hope this helps 🙂👍

I prefer to use a 3 ft by 1 ft by 1.5 ft or around those dimensions for a grow-out tank. The bigger the better and the faster the babies will grow. @@dmaquatics4207 Just like people, Rams can be very unpredictable as they are quite intelligent. You really have to give your rams multiple attempts to raise fry before they get it right. This is because they have been commercially bred for many generations and the parental instinct is not as strong as say a Bolivian Ram that are more recent. I hope this answers your question:)
