Normally when you close the lid of your laptop it will either put your computer sleep or hibernate the windows. But if you want to keep running it even you close the lid then there is a Windows settings that you can modify to stay laptop turned on and keep working.
Why this is useful?
This is very useful when you are using an external display or monitor with your laptop.
When you are downloading, rendering or your computer doing something that doesn't need your presence.
