Learn how to join a new skein of yarn to your work. This technique can be used either when you run out of yarn and need to join a new skein of the same color, or for when you are adding a new color (such as when you are working stripes).

As a beginner to knitting this was so easy and helpful. I was dreading having to add on a new skein of yarn to my first project but you made it so simple and clear! Thank you!!
I just started knitting and was looking for this kind of video to explain what to do when the yarn runs out. I have autism, so I need clear and simple explanations when I do stuff. I looked at other videos but yours is the best one I found. Thank you so much for uploading this! You’re awesome 👍🏻

I’m so glad it was helpful! ❤️
Thank you for teaching us this simple way to add in a new skein. I am a beginner and you will be my go to channel for advice.
Much nicer than tying a knot - which is what I was going to do. Thank you!
Thank you for a clear and simple method of adding new yarn and for not fussing too much as some others do when doing these knitting tutorials.
I'm a new knitter and I've watched a few other videos on joining a new yarn. This one is the best! Thank you so much.
Thank you so much! That was so much simpler than other ways I’d seen and you are so clear and helpful! I followed along and it worked perfectly 😁
Thank you so very much. I’m disabled and knit left handed and this is the best and easiest way for me to join a new ball of wool. 😊
This was soo helpful thank you. But what do you do with the long tail?

@user-fyv9y79wv, you weave in the long tail, and if you don’t know how to weave in your tails, there are lots of good tutorials on youtube😊
Omg this is so simple and no gaping hole. Thank you for such a great video demonstration 😊🩵!
You made It easier and less complicated than other videos. Thank you!!!!!!😊
Thank you for your clear explanation and accompanying visual!
I'm a new knitter and thank you for the great tutorial 🧶 💗

Very nice. TY
Thx you ❤😊
Made sense, BUT what do you do with the old skein's tail? Do you cut it? Will it not unravel if you do that? I am confused at that part.

Hi! Great questions. You should cut the old yarn but leave a long tail - I usually like 8-10” long. After you’re done with your project you’ll weave your ends in to secure them. When you cut your ends, the stitch won’t unravel (so long as tail isn’t super short) - the stitch may be a little loose but it can be tightened when you weave in ends. Here is how I like to weave in my ends: elizabethsmithknits.com/2020/12/09/duplicate-stitch-for-weaving-in-ends/
Great! Thank you so much! What do I do with the extra length of the old yarn that is still hanging a couple inches?

Hi! You'll see that extra length (usually referred to as the "tail") to weave in afterwards. Here is my tutorial that shows how I like to weave in ends - I hope it's helpful! elizabethsmithknits.com/2020/12/09/duplicate-stitch-for-weaving-in-ends/
Do u have to leave a long tail for the new yarn as well? And if you do, how do I deal with the multiple tails hanging off when I continue knitting. Also, when if transferring a stitch to the second needle and accidentally loose the loop/let it slip, how do I rectify that mistake without unraveling the whole thing? Thank you

Yes, I leave a long tail for both yarns and I just leave them there until I'm ready to weave in ends. They're not so long that they get in the way so it doesn't bother me. If they are long enough to really get in the way then I'd consider trimming them up a bit (just be sure to leave at least 6-8" long). As for your second question, I think the problem you are describing is when you drop a stitch - I don't have a video about it but here is one from Very Pink Knits: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dKKIqpdvl8i1oNI.html Hope that helps!
That looks awesome. What do you do with the loose ends?

Thank you! I weave them in, usually using the duplicate stitch technique. Here's a link to my tutorial about that: www.elizabethsmithknits.com/2020/12/09/duplicate-stitch-for-weaving-in-ends/
Love this method but what do you do with tails?

Hi there! I weave them in at the end. Here's a method I like to use: elizabethsmithknits.com/2020/12/09/duplicate-stitch-for-weaving-in-ends/
So once the piece is finished is the extra ends just woven in?
@ElizabethSmithKnits

Yes exactly! I like to use the duplicate stitch technique for weaving in ends. You can see my tutorial for that here: elizabethsmithknits.com/2020/12/09/duplicate-stitch-for-weaving-in-ends/
To easy!!!
What do I do with the strands? I’m knitting a scarf so there is no wrong side. 🤔

Hi! In a scarf where there is no wrong side, I find that using the duplicate stitch method of weaving in ends to be my favorite - here is a link on my website for a tutorial about it: elizabethsmithknits.com/2020/12/09/duplicate-stitch-for-weaving-in-ends/
What if you want to use this decrease on a wrong side ?

Do you mean, what if you want to add a new skein on the wrong side? You can work it the same way, but then on the next row, I move the tails from the RS of the work to the WS. Hope that helps!
What about if you do not have a tail. I am working right front of a cardigan and had stitches placed on hold. I cast off left front. Pattern states, rejoin yarn as if, working in new ball to stitches on hold? How do I do this without a tail?
@ElizabethSmithKnits

Hi there! In that case, then you would just start working with the new yarn. So you would insert your right needle into the first stitch, then drape the new strand over your right needle and knit it. For a visual of this, you can check out my video here - it's of a totally different situation (I'm picking-up and knitting stitches), but the part that I fast-forwarded to for you is where I'm joining the new ball of yarn: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZK2W29eBeaXRgZM.htmlsi=yrcaqh-1uAOplz7Q&t=160 I hope that helps!
What are you supposed to do with the tail?

You'll weave in your tails at the end. My preferred method of weaving in ends is using the duplicate stitch technique. Here's a tutorial on my website about it! elizabethsmithknits.com/2020/12/09/duplicate-stitch-for-weaving-in-ends/
