    In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens kzread.infoUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

    That was a very nice video. As for size comparison it would be nice to know the size of something as we see dots or arches on the screen as to what size they really are. For instance you could have scanned Kyle below on 2d, DI and Side Scan to see how his size compared on the screen to how big he is. For we all wonder for the dots we see, how big is the fish, do the dots get bigger with bigger fish?

    Great video.I'm a beginner with the 698ci HD SI unit.I would get more out of a it'll more basic stuff like explanation if the different Views available, which Views you were switching to and from, how to set display scale based on circumstances,..Also, where would you have thrown, in relation to the boat position, if you wanted to catch those 3-4 "walleye" you pointed out on the return?After your buddy, Kyle, dived in, he must have thrown a big return back. Where was he and why didn't you show us where he was on-screen and with respect to boat position?I need a lesson on how to read the different Views. I spend a lot of time switching Views without knowing which is giving me useful info for what I'm doing st the time.Thanks for the instruction.mgf

  • @MichiganPowersports

    Frequency can be adjusted depending on how deep you are running. If you are under 50ft, use the higher frequency like the mega imaging(1.2mHz/1200kHz). If you are fishing deep around 100+ft, go lower like 455kHz. The higher the frequency, the more clear your picture will be, but if you are deep it will narrow your view and do more harm than good. Different finders will yield different results at different depths, especially with the difference in transducers, so check the owners manual of your device for best reference on when to use specific frequencies.

    John, Thank you for contacting Humminbird on this matter. You will be able to incorporate SI Range Lines on the Side Imaging to help gauge distance to the object from the center line of the path. Otherwise, while the object is still on the view, you can also put the cursor of the view on the object and this will give you the distance to the Cursor which is on the object of interest. Please feel free to reply to this message/post if you should have further questions. You may also contact us at our toll free number of 1-800-633-1468 to speak to a representative.

    Great video and showing comparisons of down, side imaging and traditional sonar. We were using a Humminbird 797C2 with a 5" screen. I wanted to upgrade to a bigger screen and new technology like recording maps. We looked at the Humminbird Helix 9, 10 models at a store on display. I noticed a big black border around the 9" screen. Asked the sales guy what's with that. He said 9" to 12" use the same case. If you buy the 12" the screen is filled. I told him I don't like that at all. We ended up buying a Garmin with a 9" screen. Pros has a lot of features, no limit to recording maps what ever your card will hold. I purchased a lake map. The unit comes with the marine maps. I had to use an app to register after that it gave me the option to save to a SD card. I took the 32 gb card out of my unit and saved to it. Now I have everything on the SD card no switching cards. Great feature. Plus I made a backup card. The original Lake Map is put away. The Cons - I was not happy with the side imaging. Really poor and very finicky, speed of boat has to be just right plus has to be moving. The detail isn't even close to what my 2009 797C2 Humminbird does. Garmin also states that side imaging is for structure only not finding fish. I know salmon guides that use side imaging on rivers to figure out if fish are to the right or left of them. Seems odd side imaging isn't for spotting fish. I was told no Garmin side imaging is really good. I don't see it. While talking to Garmin support, which has been pretty good, I asked about enlarging the MPH on the screen so I can see it better from the back of the boat while trolling. There is no way to change the size of the text on the screen. I could hide some things but that was it. I was told Humminbird is like a small block Chevy they just work. Garmin I have been told is more of a pain with a lot of tinkering needed to get things to work right. I have been messing with the transducer to get it right. Never had to do that with the Humminbird. Also can you recommend a Humminbird model in the 9" or 10", minus the big black border. We are kicking around selling this Garmin and going back to Humminbird.

    Gentlemen, I want to use two similar humminbird fish-finder transducers as diver detection sonars. Because they have a shorter range than the actual diver detection sonar, I want to use them like security cameras (one next to the other) in order to cover a bigger area. I also want to combine their output to one TV screen just like security camera display. Is this possible? what do I need for this to happen?

  • @HumminbirdTV

    @HumminbirdTV

    Mkuseli, unfortunately our systems are not capable of performing in this manner. Two transducers of the same frequencies can possibly provide cross-talk that would give insufficient returns. We also do not have a combined video output feed cable for connection to a monitor to show both systems on one monitor.

    Do you think cutting and extending the length of the cord from the sensor to the screen from 4m to 20m can affect the quality or the performance of the transducer? We want to extend the cord length so that we can mount the transducer on our harbour wall and have the display unit mounted in our office.

  • @HumminbirdTV

    @HumminbirdTV

    Mkuseli, thank you for your response. The total length of our transducer cable cannot extend past 50ft. This would be the maximum length of cable that can be used without causing quality issues with the sonar. Let us know if you have any additional questions!

    I was really anticipating this video as I bought a Humminbird a few years ago & paid significantly more for down imaging. (Side imaging was just being introduced & way out of my price range.) I generally don't use the down imaging because it doesn't show anything. I go over a whole school of game fish on sonar & change to DI and there's absolutely nothing at all there - completely black screen. The only time I've ever seen anything in down imaging mode is when I run over a log or something else big, which I can tell on sonar. I feel that the down imaging is a gimmick and complete waste of money. You obviously have far more experience with it than I. Do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

    It is best to start with the Default Settings of the unit and go from there. Typically if you can confirm what needs work we can give some suggestions on adjusting the unit as needed. It is usually best to contact us via phone while on the water with the unit for realtime assistance to help calibrate the unit as you can describe what you are getting and we can make suggestions on things to adjust to improve the readings. We can be reached at 1-800-633-1468 if you would like to speak to a representative.

  • @HumminbirdTV

    @HumminbirdTV

    5 жыл бұрын

    Ed, thank you for contacting Humminbird on this matter. The DI and the 2D sonar have different coverage areas and cone angles. The DI would be a thin wide cone and is the reason you would have to be moving in order to view the bottom detail in the way it shows on the view. The 2D sonar is a round circular cone and covers more area front to back than the DI. If you happen to go over a fish or something to that affect that could enter into the 2D cone and exit the area before the DI is able to detect it. Please feel free to reply to this message if you should have further questions.
