In my last build, I followed this method, and the condensation on the wood furring strips made some of them start to mold and rot. So from experience the only thing I'd do differently is seal all of them with Killz mold resistant primer.

@dadavidvids we are having condensation problems also, luckily we aren't too far into the project and can undo a bit to fix it. Would you recommend some type of moisture barrier material? If so what and where? Or do you think killz would work?
I insulated my box truck. I put down 1/2" foam board and laid the 1/2" birch plywood right onto the foam board. I put a few deck screws in but you could just use glue. Same for the walls and ceiling. It saves time, materials and weight.

clever!
Lol. Can't believe we did not thought of insulating the box truck before putting the ac in. I was basically sleeping in a sauna when I slept in it for the first time. Lesson learned.

Love your channel....very informative💛
I plan to do this with a 14 foot box, using 1.5 inch foam board on the walls in combination with 2x2 framing. Do you think that is overkill? (I will be running AC on solar)
Love the videos....cant wait to see more 😀

I'd say u nailed it,,,or screwed it lol,,,putting wood over the steel uprights will reduce thermal transfer from outside,,,how was it holding heat over the winter,,,I'm thinking the same, but want to do 4inch in ceiling
amazing, great, wonderful, 10/10

Hey, there great job!! Question, the great stuff gaps, and cracks, it's also an adhesive? I see you used it to tack up your insulation.

Thanks! and yes once its dry it holds pretty well
Nicely done! We are currently converting a box truck for living space, but are having problems with condensation. Does anyone have suggestions for moisture barrier material to stop condensation on the metal ribs?? Unfortunately, I think we have to undo some of our work and mitigate this issue before we move further.

What about thermal bridging? Any issues so far?
Are you still doing this conversion? Haven't seen any videos on your box truck in 3 months. Hope all is well!

D Mahon it’s on pause for a little while with school and everything but thanks!
Very nice videos I'm thinking of doing the same on a smaller scale (10/12 ft) box. Did you ever think of just using spray foam? I know it costs more, but seems way less labor intensive :) looking forward to the solar video..

I’d look around to get a quote for a shop do it, it’s pretty messy if you don’t know exactly what you’re doing 😂

The foam isn’t as effective as the insulation panels and toxic
Hi, how is the foam holding up? is it staying in place? Also have you heated the inside space of the truck yet? If so have you noticed condensation anywhere where the ribs are attached? especially around the fasteners..
@AveryCaudill

No heat yet, but the foam has been great! Make sure to glue up the ceiling though haha

@@AveryCaudill when you say glue up the ceiling, you mean the foam or the panels that goes over the foam? Thanks

@@mattolsson8816 yeah I mean the foam panels, like with the spray foam in the video, then you won’t have to worry about the ceiling panels holding them up

It looks like you cut 2×4 in half for the ribs, is that correct? I was wondering what thickness of wood you used.

How efficient is an insulation job like this? Does it stay relatively cool in summer?

It’s certainly not as good as a regular house, it does get pretty warm in the sun, but it’s a huge huge improvement from just the shell

You are smart by living in your own RV for college. I lived in a 40x8 old trailer home when I went to college. Bought it for 2300 and sold it 3 years later for 1800. My rent for 3 years of college was 500 and if I lived elsewhere it would have cost a minimum of 4000 in the mid 70's. Study and do your best in school.
