Another great video Ben! You captured everything realistically. So many videos have everything go “perfectly” and that’s just not real. Sometimes these classics make us bang our head on the wall. I’m glad everything ended up working out! Wilwood is a great company. I remember a guy helped me over the phone with brake questions and I didn’t even have Wilwood brakes. Awesome people there.

Not to down play car covers, BUT I used to have many different types of car covers on my Mustang as it was stored in an outside space at a storage yard. Most car covers lasted about a year in the brutal So Cal sun. After I sold the car, I found out about Sunbrella covers. They can be custom fitted to whatever you want by a good shop but they are pricey. I had one made specifically for my boat I had at a storage yard. It wasn't cheap but it was great. In fact, my GF made some travel trailer tire covers for me out of a 20 something year old Sunbrella boat cover and it still is in great shape. Too bad they don't have self adjusters for that parking brake setup. I just saw a video of newer Ford models having electronic parking brakes. That would be something cool!

Hey Ben - thanks for posting this. I'm at the point of mounting a Wilwood conversion on my '66 Mustang, so was watching really closely. I think I'm seeing that you have the same issue I've discovered - it appears that when your brake rotor/hat is snugged down on the rear hubs, they're actually sitting proud of the hub plate by 1/8-3/16 of an inch. That's what it looks like on the screen anyway. I have the same problem. I talked to Wilwood just now- they agreed it's gotta be flush and clamped with the lug nuts, or there's no integrity to the mounting. I just figured out the cause of the problem on my car. The rotor hat from Wilwood has wheel stud holes bored at 0.50 +/- inch. But the actually base of the studs is not cut or threaded, and measures 0.530 inch diameter, over a length of about 1/8 inch from the hub face. So to make it fit flush/properly, the holes in the rotor/hat have to be bored out thirty thousandths. Hope I'm wrong, but for your safety's sake, please take a look. Best- Kevin

As usual, great work from you again. Was trying to see where the cable was channeled around the rear. Have my cable still sitting in its bag for a couple of years now. On my 65, original cable seems to go between chassis rail and body. Did you follow this original line also?

6:58 On my 70 Z28 the star wheel adjuster on the rear drum brakes only turns in 1 direction b/c there’s a star wheel adjusting arm and Its job is to advance the star wheel, takeing up wear in the breaks at each reverse stop and also to keep the star wheel from backing off. So in order to release the width of the shoes you have to lift up on the arm with a screwdriver then turn the star wheel in the opposite direction.

I dunno, that's why the factory balance arm was wide, to provide drive line clearance. Could have used all the factory stuff with the new cables.

Great upgrade but I have to say the brake lever location in the 65/66 Mustang is just bad, and more at home in a grocery-getter than a performance car. One of the first mods I did to my 65 was to relocate the e-brake lever to between the seats, using a brake lever from a late model Mustang (I think the donor was a '94). Give it a try, you'll like it.
