Unfortunately the problem with that harness is that there is no fuse. So if something happens you’re out of a brake controller. I would probably add a fuse to the power wire just for ease of mind

Luckily I never had an issue. But it would have been a good idea.

So my 1997 ran 2500 doesn’t have the option under the dash I looked at every single wire and connection. Is there a way to just create your own wiring battery>ground>stoplight>brake>7way plug?

I’m sure there is. Google that and I’m sure you’ll find someone who’s done it. I was super happy mine had that plug! Sorry doesn’t! Sounds less fun!

Buying the parts now for my 99 dodge 1500 through your links! Questions if you know? First time buying a great shape used camper. Does this brake system uses the tow electrical hook up to send signals to the trailer brakes? My trailer hook up is pretty corroded it was installed years ago by U-Haul. Wondering if the wires are all terminated properly.

Yeah the trailer brakes get the signal from the connection. You’ll want to make sure those co tact’s are clean, scrape or file them to remove rust and such. Test them before hiring highway speeds! Stay safe!

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram and I can't find the blue plug in next to the longer white connector you took off.

I don’t know if this is standard on all Ram trucks. Could be the Sport package or an upgrade to a tow package. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Yeah my truck was “tow ready”. Factory hitch and trailer lights , including the plug under the dash.

I know it’s a long shot, but my dodge does not have that blue female plug for my brake controller. Any idea where those red wires tie into?

Sorry I don’t. Red usually means power though. Look for a wiring diagram online. There’s gotta be something posted somewhere.

That’s because the Ram 1500 comes pre-wired just missing the trailer brake controller. I explain this in the video.
