How To Install The BCM SOPMOD Bolt Upgrade/Rebuild Kit for your AR-15
The BCM SOPMOD Bolt Upgrade/Rebuild Kit is a great way to enhance reliable extraction while increasing the longevity of your AR-15's bolt.
I wanted to share this how to video regarding the installation of an AR-15 bolt upgrade kit from BCM (Bravo Company Manufacturing). It will help to ensure reliable extraction and extend the service life of your extractor as well as its springs. It's an inexpensive upgrade to any AR-15 bolt that can help you feel good about your rifles capability. Changing small parts like springs, gas rings and your extractor should be part of a routine maintenance schedule. For example, the extractor spring with this kit is rated for a 5,000 round service life. Here is an excellent article discussing some of those topics if you're interested: bravocompanyusa.com/content/F...

    Did you find this video helpful with your installation process? I am not an armorer or gunsmith but I felt pretty comfortable doing this project myself. If I did anything wrong, any suggestions or advice is well received. Here is an interesting article about the service life of AR-15's and their components: bravocompanyusa.com/content/Filthy%2014%20bravo_swat_10.pdf Also, videos like this are not monetized due to guidelines. Its helpful but wrong, with those springs you either use the inner rubber or doughnut but not both!

    If you own an AR you need to know how to work on these parts, Gets spare parts, they do break. Videos like this are invaluable. Get some good quality tools, you will not regret it.

    It really was a good video. Having these parts on hand is very important. In last video, you could actually tell a difference as the bolt carriers were being retracted, the original had a substantial drag sound versus the BCM bolt.

    Great video! Perhaps you could do a similar video on changing the Ejector pin, spring and plunger. This is what I would call a "practical video" because it teaches you something you can actually apply in real life. Thank you, Magic.

    gotta have my walmart glasses for that. You need a plastic pecker for that pin. sorry couldn't resist...lol

  • @hairydogstail
    @hairydogstail4 ай бұрын

    Never use the plastic insert and the rubber O-ring together..Dump the rubber O-ring, it is not needed..It fact it will over tension the extractor which caused your extraction and ejection problems on your rifle from the last video..Get a Springco 5 coil extractor spring and use the plastic insert if you want the best upgrade..It should last the life of your barrel..O-rings are used with inferior springs..If the carrier passed the gas ring test, then there was no need to replace them..It is pointless to try and keep the gas rings gaps from lining up..They move around all the time and if your rifle fails because they were lined up then your rifle has other problems..

  • @MagicPrepper

    @MagicPrepper

    So I checked with those who know more than I and I was told that with this particular kit you are indeed supposed to install the insert and the o-ring together.

    You need to talk to better people..The rubber O-ring was part of the SOPMOD groups upgrade they made when Colt had some M4's that had improper chrome chambers causing malfunctions..The rubber O-ring is used in cheaper bolts with inferior extractor springs..If you ever received a new BCM BCG, you will notice they leave the rubber O-ring out of it for a reason..kzread.info/dash/bejne/kWGXpNmliMXSnc4.htmlsi=lSFC4DrcNotdNirR&t=665@@MagicPrepper

    The system as developed by Crane required both. The spring guide prevents kink in the top coil, while the donut extends spring consistency over the life of the part to prevent declining pressure of lifespan.

    In my opinion, it looks to be more of a replacement kit instead of upgrade kit. Nothing substantially that different to justify changing out unless there are defects in the current parts.

    Iv got a like new bcg from RTB. First it has issue extracting steel case. Installed a BCM extractor spring kit. After that seemed to fix that issue. Now I noticed some malfunctioning where I get extraction but no ejecting causing a major malfunction!!! Wtf Some was steel case. Tan some brass Did it on the first round then didn’t at all till last round So the spent shell stays in the extractor Any ideas !? Im thinking maybe the extractor could have a problem or a gas issue ? Idk. It’s a midlength gas 16 inch. Carbine bufffer. Standard stuff never had this many problems

    Bub...you do too much gun fondling. Tell Midway to start making good quality powdered eggs at a great price. All the powdered eggs have skyrocketed in cost. Nothing affordable. Back in the day, 1990s, Midway always had stupendous deals. Then they got greedy and all that was gone. Tell Midway to go back to its roots.
