I bought an 85 Cj7 that looks identical to that 84, and I'd love to have this Holley system on my Jeep, but it has the Howell throttle body already installed on it, and I can't find one mechanic who's worth a damn, or who even wants to work on it...I paid $3000 for it, drove it for 2 months, then found out the hard way that I had to rebuild or replace or upgrade everything save for the transmission, transfer case, and front differential, EVERYTHING ELSE I've had done...blew a head gasket 3 months ago, and I had the head and valves done by a shop that cannot get it to run without it backfiring and buckin like a rodeo horse, and there's no one else I can find who wants to work on it here in Los Banos, Calif..., Ive called at least a dozen shops I've got over $15,000 in it already and it just sits in my driveway....I'm so pissed off I can barely see straight....

I bought this system for my 1978 Jeep CJ5. I’ve had to replace the TPS that came with it (twice), the 02 sensor, and the IAC valve. After figuring all of this out it does seem to run better than it ever has.

That sender set up will fit some 67-72 Ford trucks. With the rear tank option. And possibly early Broncos.

1987 to 1989 YJ wrangler also has the same AMC 258 engine that the CJ had. Should apply to them with little to no adjustments.

Going to try this on my samurai with one of these efi systems. The stock 1.6 tbi on the tracker is getting to harder to find parts for, so I'm going to try this route.

if you want to install the bbd efi do you need the new fuel pump new distributor and all that? or can I just install the efi?

Agree with the comments concerning the red-headed stepchild. the 87-90 YJs come with the same 4.2L engine, but the gas tank listed in this video doesn't fit (according to Holley when I spoke to them). So while the EFI system "should" work, we are stuck with the external fuel pump. Would love to see Holley put out some parts/videos for the YJ (we really need the help). Also, what about the old computer and wiring harness? what of that can be removed?

You know, the YJ 4cyl were fuel injected. I see no reason why that fuel system couldn't be used to feed the Sniper install on a 4.2L. They had an in-tank fuel pump. Seems like all you would need to do is order all the factory fuel system components from the throttle body back to, and including the tank.

I want to get this for my 1990 YJ but I have a few concerns. 1) Are you guys working on getting this CARB compliant for California? 2) I plan on keeping my Pulse Tube for CA smog. Do you guys have any instructions on disconnecting pins no longer needed for the MCU? 3) Do you have a cover plate so I can remove the mechanical fuel pump? Do you carry a 20 gal tank and pickup as well? Please include our ugly stepchild ‘87-‘90 YJ’s with Carburetors and smog crap.

Why are 1987-1990 4.2 liter Wranglers not included in the list?

I am looking to put this on my 83 CJ7, I have stainless gas line from tank up frame to fuel pump, is it necessary to eliminate the gas line and run a new one?

Where is the return line run to?

Installed the Sniper EFI but my smog tubing is blocking the fuel inlet, which 90 degree fitting should i use in place of the one that came with the kit? Is it part number #98220berl?

Question for Holley or anyone... I have the 4.2L straight 6; Offenhauser dual plane intake with 4150 intake pattern (It's bored over and made about 210 on the dyno), I don't think I have a spot to put the temp gauge on the intake (I don't think coolant even runs through it), I was just going to put it at the front of the head, where the stock temp sensor is, but the stock sensor is much smaller than the one provided in the EFI kit. The stock sensor uses two wires that are the same gauge as the EFI sensor. Can I just use my stock temp sensor for the EFI system?

Will this work on my stock 258 4.2 liter inline six for a 1980 CJ5? Where would I put my temp sensor for the EFI?

Flame thrower ignition runs full voltage to coil, Engine missing after EFI install?

this says that it will work on a 1971 cj. But information floating around the web indicates that the 71 still implemented the 225 Ci "dauntless" engine, and the official word seems to be that these sniper kits may not work with the 225 being that it is an odd fire engine. So will it or wont it work with the 225 ci odd fire engines?

So there are 2 pressure regulators in this setup? One as part of the in tank module as described in the part description and also one on the efi itself...does that cause any issues? I thought one of the benefits of the Holley internal tank pump system(as described in the in tank pump spec (part #12-307) was that a return line wasn’t necessary because the return action happened inside the tank with that regulator...and if a return line isn’t necessary, would you just cap off the return side on the efi? Just wondering about effects of 2 regulators...

Two regulators are not needed, we just happen to be using a self-regulated pump on this build.

Different fuel tank. It will work in theory, you just have to have an external fuel pump

i have a 1980 cj7 original its has a dodge 318 carburador and im going mad cuz i spend 2.5 litres of gasoline in 5 milles

Instead of using the BBd Sniper try the Sniper 2GC www.holley.com/brands/sniper/products/fuel_systems/fuel_injection/sniper_efi/sniper_efi_2gc/ unit. The throttle linkage is a universal design instead of a specific set-up fo the jeeps. Everything else is pretty straight forward. You will need to upgrade your fuel system to provide EFi pressures (60psi). Thx J

This would work on the slant six, but our Sniper 2GC would work better since the bell crank is universal and works with a variety of throttle and transmission set-ups. You can use the stock electronic or points distributor with Sniper and our Hyperspark ignition box and coil also. Sorry, we don't offer a Hyperspark distributor for them yet. Thx J

I find it kind of funny so many are giving Holley their hard earned money for what amounts to an electronic carburetor. EFI? No. It is not. Needless overcomplication and expense for those sold on 'new and electronic vs mechanical is always better' ? . Yes.

Agree. Added a Weber 32/36 on my 232 and it ran lock clockwork. On and off road. About the only time I know electronic is better is when constantly changing elevations. Otherwise, there's nothing wrong with a good running carb. I get 16-17mpg regularly.

I'm confused. It uses a high pressure regulated fuel pump with two 100 pound per hour fuel injectors and an adapting learn computer.

My Jeep came with 1 barrel, and 2 bolts, do i need to change my manifold intake?

I have a 1971 CJ-5 with the Dauntless 225 ci v-6 and wonder if it’s worth it for me living in NYS and driving it 6 months a year. Cost?

So what if I didnt want to change the fuel tank that has no internal fuel pump? Would I use an inline?
