A simple install video on how to install a Shimano Center lock rotor to a 6 bolt rotor adapter. I bought this adapter from aliexpress, so hopefully it holds up :)

Nice and straight to the point!!! No unnecessary side comments.
thanks man ! very concise & practical
Excellent and clear. I was concerned how adapter holds disc securely ? New bike Trance X 2 29 came with excellent Deore 4 piston centerlock ? discs 203 front and 180 rear but I noticed disc surface too glossy and narrow compared to my Magura MT5 pistons contact patch and 6 bolt wider brake area on 203... under heavy trail braking not as smooth and modulated... we'll see. I may try to sand them like I normally do for power. Otherwise Very well put together video showing all the pieces... seems snug
good job man this video help me thank you
This video help me thanks
Nice, is the same If the brakes system is Flat mount ? Can I use the adapter from CL to 6 Bolts as well ?
What brand of adapter this one? Tnx
You sound like Mr. Slave on southpark
Great vid. If you switch back to centerlock rotors, could you use the lock ring from the adapter instead of the Shimano one? I’m assuming it’s pretty much the same part?

Yes, it should be the same part
there are lots of video adapters for centerlock hubs to sixbolt rotors, but why am I looking for the other way around and they're not there? I mean, why doesn't anyone make a video adapter for a sixbolt hub to centerlock rotor?
Great video. Seems very easy to do (almost too easy actually) I am considering upgrading the brakes on my bike from Shimano M475 to some real hope tech 3 E4 brakes and rotors only then I would still need to mount them on my shimano wheels with Center lock. Later though I would upgrade the wheels too and then I could have 6 bolts hubs, but I can't figure out if I would really want that, especially since you make the adaptation seem so easy. Does it brake as good as with a 6 bolt mount?

Thanks! It was VERY easy and straightforward. Since I did upgrade to 180mm from 160mm, the braking performance obviously went up, but I have confidence that the performance will be exactly the same as before, if you were to use an equivalent part. The only difference is the ability to swap rotors with ease.

Hope are eye candy for sure but they're not powerful compared to Magura MT5 or shimano SLX, XT or Zee. My 2cc

I don't think there is, other than buying a new hub.

$12 to 18 bucks -- I just installed 2 -- just type in "centerlock to 6 bolt" on Amazon or eBay.
can i ask permission to use this video as my story?.....
How much torque is applied in securing the centrelock?

its always 40nm
any chance there is a reverse adapter? 6 bolt to centerlock?
@Matt-xq6ow

Sadly, the 6 bolt is made with the hub, and is non-removable. So you'll need to buy a centerlock style hub. :(

What problem?
What kind of adapter is that? Who made it? Where did you get it?
@Matt-xq6ow

It's called a Center-lock to 6 bolt adapter. You can get it from your local bike shop or amazon. I got mine from Aliexpress.

im trying to covert a wheel to accept a disc brake that previously used v brakes. From what i saw this could work for that too correct?
@Matt-xq6ow
6 жыл бұрын
If you have vbrakes, more than likely, you do not have a 6 bolt hub or centerlock hub. In that case, you'll need to buy a hub capable of accepting a 6 bolt disc brake rotor, or centerlock brake rotor.

@@Matt-xq6ow Thanks for the video. Can you post a link for that hub adapter for bikes with factory vbrakes/rim brakes?
Adapter is 15.00. I found same model center lock rotor for 20. New rotor better route..
It’s not a 6 bolts - it’s just an adapter on a new rotor without rivets! did u see any bolts there? Clean work, but u should follow torque spec.

It doesn't even imply that it's 6 bolts - the video is titled "how to install a centerlock to 6 bolt ADAPTER". Nothing to do with using bolts or rivets or visa versa - simply how to INSTALL THE ADAPTER
pretty sure you got washer stack wrong

Don't think so...
why would anyone want to change a centerlock to a 6 bolt? Center lock is better
@Matt-xq6ow
7 жыл бұрын
jc51373 to each their own. there aren't that many differences between center Lock and 6 bolt to say that one is better than the other.
@jc51373
7 жыл бұрын
Center lock is absolutely better than 6 bolt, which is why the entire industry is moving in that direction. And the differences are significant, all the torque is applied to those bolts. Mere mortals may not notice any difference just can't underdstand why you'd want to adapt out of it unless there is something technical going on you needed to do it for.
@Matt-xq6ow
7 жыл бұрын
Yea, but there are only a few differences to justify that centerlock is better. Minimal at best. You mention, ease of installation. That's really about it. I went 6 bolt, since I like the ability to swap to different rotors. Not just specific centerlock rotors.

to me strength is the reason to use it, it's stronger more consistent with zero chance of it modulating or loosening up, or as you said being installed incorrectly.

If you want to install floating roters from Hope. This is what I am considering doing myself.
Can you show us that 40 N-m torque again?
why would anyone want to do this it makes no sense, the other way around makes sense
Seem's like a waste of time to me, don't see a huge benefit.
