    From an old guy, just put the screws and other such fasteners back from where you removed them from and you will not have to worry where they came from or where to reinstall them. I'd suggest going with smaller paneled suppression as their easier to apply as needed than larger pieces. Please note that not every square inch needs to be covered as it's noise suppression and we're not building a submarine. Some area's in a vehicle will be more solid and will not require as much suppression, while area's like the back cargo area is where I'd apply another layer. I'd also suggest applying the foam based suppression materials just before the carpeting. I installed insulation in the back quarters in the body voids for thermal insulation and a bit of noise reduction, but into the drivers and passenger inside front doors area's. I did spot that some material was installed at the factory, but that was only enough to not have the doors sound "tinny" I believe. On the ceiling I've installed 2" foam from a fabric store as it reduced the noise and also provided great insulation during summer and winter. The headliner base wasn't recoverable and it wasn't going to a shop to get professionally redone. Overall pretty good coverage on the topic with good lighting with visual quality. So long as a person isn't using "peel n stick", but a product like Noico, FatMat or KilMat a person will be pretty well off. At the end of the day, do not forget we're driving a vehicle that's the shape of the brick so there will be noise from around the door seals, but also tire noise depending on what type of tire you run. i.e. highway/AT/mud tire 😁✌

    @@SomeGuyOutside Revisiting as I have been reviewing this topic as I will be doing my 4 liter powered '87 XJ Pioneer soon. I just received some 80 mil Kilmat which I will be using again, though I had almost decided and probably could have used Amazon's Basics instead. I'm considering the Noico more and more as foam provides dampening and thermal insulation. And what I am liking is that it's "self-adhesive". My current project needs to have the exhaust rehung as it wasn't done properly and it's going into the shop tomorrow. I do have some GoPro capture and will record more afterwards. Today I just received my order for the drivers side door seal which should also reduce the noise, as it also effects the passenger side as well. I also inspected the dropgate/rear seal and noticed I was missing the left/driver side liftgate bump stop. Eventually I will have to compile all of my photo's and other content to edit it and upload it to my channel which I've neglected. Yet on my FB I post updates more frequently, but also remove things as well.

    Used the same product on my ceiling floors and doors. Worked really well. Significantly reduced road noise and improved audio quality from the stereo. Tip: anytime you have access to the interior of the doors in particular, take the opportunity to spray FluidFilm into hard to reach places.

    For the doors, I actually cut the Noico into strips and put them on the inside of the exterior door metal. It worked very well on noise reduction. I didnt do the interior skin, because I worried about the door panels not fitting back on well, but it looks like you didn’t have that issue. I may go back and add a bit to avoid any rattling , but leave the existing holes open, to make repairs easier. Nicely done overall. The only other difference is I used the 350 mil foam on most of roof (on top of the metal 80 mil)) and anywhere it wouldn’t cause panel fit issues. Rain on roof went from clattering marbles sound to gentle putter patter.

    To keep proper screws with correct panels, just toss them in a Sandwich bag and painters tape it to the panel ! instead of adding the sound material on door Face, you can add it to the Back of the Door Panels like a lot of cars have.

  • @SomeGuyOutside

    It took one box of both to do about half of the jeep and not all areas were doubled up. I’d say a minimum to do the entire floor along with the roof and doors, wheel Wells and trans tunnel would be four boxes. Now I don’t think you NEED to do every square inch (it’s a Jeep you won’t get quiet) but it would certainly be nicer I’m sure

    this video is awesome, thanks for sharing. I do have a question: I would really like to add insulation (both materials) EVERYWHERE!! I hate the road noise and so my family so I need to make it as quiet as possible. However, I don't have a garage to work comfortable and I need to tackle this project by pieces. Obviously doors & tailgate can be done one at a time, my issue is how long will it take me to do the entire floor and put everything back again. Is that something I can do in just one day? How about the bedliner? Can I do that on a different day or it's really a mess to take it apart and I better do the entire project in just one go?

    Sorry I didn’t see this comment, haven’t been checking the tube during the holidays! Thank you for the comment! I did the Bedliner about four years ago before I was YouTubing so I can’t go back and check videos for accuracy. I do think stripping the inside took a good half a day and then prepping painting the bedlining took atleast the next half of the day and then it had to set for atleast a day if not two before I reinstalled the interior. You could absolutely kill two birds with one stone and after the bedliner/monstaliner (that’s the company i used and I would recommend) you could then install the sound deadening before reinstalling the interior. and if you’re going to pull your headliner out and it’s not in perfect shape I would take the time do redo your headliner ( i do have a video on that (not so subtle self promotion)) I don’t have a garage large enough to comfortably work on the Jeep and even close the garage door so most projects It’s all the way outside! Good luck, you can do it!!

    Please guys, don't waste time and money putting this insulation on. I did it in a 2001 Cherokee sport, what's more, I put double insulation (150 and 80, one over the other), on the floor, I also put the carpet and on the carpet, Weathertech rubber mats. The sound difference is non-existent, 24:10 he says that he reduced 10 decibels on average, those 10 decibels are equivalent to the sound level of a normal breath. Those 10 Db are impossible to perceive in a moving car, unless they use an app like the one he uses, he is not lying about that, but in daily use, it means absolutely nothing. It's like saying that putting a turbo increases the speed from 100 to 102 miles per hour. Another example is like those who sell them that if you replace your house windows, they are going to make you save energy. Right, they don't lie, but what's the point of saving pennies when you're going to spend thousands to replace your windows. If he should have done a before and after regarding the cabin temperature, too bad, he didn't, maybe he improved on that. The time you are going to lose doing this, use it for off-roading and you will enjoy it more!

  • @SomeGuyOutside

    @SomeGuyOutside

    Yes 10 DB isn’t a lot, but any noise above 70 DB is going to cause long term ear/hearing damage and if you can reduce the intensity above that and value your ears then it’s absolutely worth your money and a day of time. Having worked in a shop for three and having hearing damage from it I wish I would’ve started caring for my hearing earlier and this is something I only regret not doing sooner. Second part you’re correct I didn’t measure the temperature before and after difference but I’ll tell you right now and if you did install the insulation you know the temperature difference from the trans tunnel to your legs is absolutely worth it. Thank you for the comment, I disagree with your opinion but luckily that’s allowed in this world. I hope you still get to go out and enjoy wheeling no matter what you think!

    @@SomeGuyOutside Thank you for taking the time to respectfully comment on someone who posted something negative. Sorry for the negative comment, but I always tell my wife, if someone opens a new restaurant and no one tells the owner what food went wrong, soon it will close and he will think he was doing things right. If someone had thought to help him by commenting on the mistakes, that would not have happened. I respect your work very much but I also wanted to tell my personal experience about the same product. I understand that 70 dB can be harmful to the ears, but I am 54 years old, I have been working with machinery for 30 years (I have also been driving an XJs for 15 lol), due to my work I have a hearing test every year to complete and yet I have normal hearing for a man my age. Each person has different experiences and different body reactions. I don't think it takes so much time and work for 10 dB. About the temperature, I recommend you contact a friend who has an XJ, when you have the mat installed, and on the same day, side by side, compare temperatures, winter and summer. Thank you for your videos, you are very good, I am a follower.
