00:00 Introduction to LED Strip Lights
LED strip lights are flexible, versatile, and can provide subtle to bright light. They come in different outputs like static white, dynamic tunable white, RGB, RGB + White, and RGB + Tunable White. We will guide you throughout the process from product selection through the installation until you achieve your desired look. Contact us for a free project design.
1:22 Component Check
Make sure that you have all the components needed for your project and that everything is compatible before connecting, cutting, or making any permanent product changes. You will need an LED strip light, an AC/DC power supply, a dimmer or controller, (optional) solderless connectors, a mounting channel (optional but recommended), pliers, scissors, a wire stripper, and a small screwdriver.
4:30 Step 1 - Do a Mock Installation
Roll out your LED strip light and inspect for any defects. Repeat this process with the other components. Connect your LEDs to your dimmer and power supply and make sure everything works. Be careful and confirm the polarity is matched correctly through the setup. Always start from the indicators in the solder pads and make sure that every wire going out of the strip light goes into the associated indicator in the controller. Turn the power “on”. Using your controller, go through all of the colors and verify that the color you select in your controller matches the output. If not, you might have some wires crossed.
7:30 Step 2 - Measure and Cut
If you need to cut your LED strip light, measure the length needed and only cut along the indicated cut marks with sharp scissors. Follow the installation guide that comes with your reel and the specific instructions.
8:40 Step 3 - Attach Solderless Connectors
Make sure the polarity matches throughout the setup and all wires coming out from the strip go to their associated marking on the controller, regardless of the wire color.
Remove 1/2" of the tape cover and adhesive backing, inserting the LED strip light in the connector facing upwards (towards the translucent top). Use pliers to close until you hear a click.
10:20 Step 4 - Connect Controller and Power Supply
Connect everything as shown in the previous steps and turn on the power. Everything should be working correctly, and you should see the colors that you select on your controller.
11:24 Step 5 - Attach to Mounting Channel or Surface
Clean the non-porous surface where the strip is going to be attached. If you are using an aluminum channel, mount the channel first following the channel's installation instructions. Pull off the backing of the adhesive 2 inches at a time as you stick and press every segment to the desired surface whether it is a wall, or inside the mounting channel. Finally, put the channel's cover in place, start at one end and press it onto the other.

    This is awesome thanks Brett for showing step by step. Only wish there was more information on what the steps are and best practices for hard wiring multiple LED strips to one receiver/controller? So for example use case kitchens have LED strips under the cabinets with multiple location changes or large spaces in between each strip with one unified control. How was this hardwired and setup to work in unison? Can you demo with steps like this video?

    Hey @VP411Designs The Leona controller is equipped with screw terminals capable of accommodating up to three 20 AWG wires on each terminal, facilitating multiple runs. You have the option to join all the wires together to form a single wire. Using pliers, you can attempt to reduce the wire thickness to fit it into the screw terminal. Alternatively, you can use a thicker wire, such as 16 AWG, extending from the Leona controller and branching out to connect all the different runs, creating a parallel connection. Awesome video. Thank you for breaking this all down. I do have 1 question that no one seems to truly break down. I have a job and they want to use RGBCCT leds with a controller to integrate with Google. But they also want to have a manual standard 120v dimmer switch in the wall. Is this possible and if so what is required to make this work?

  • @Flexfireleds

    @Flexfireleds

    The RGB CCT allows you to turn the lights on or off using a standard On/Off switch. However, for controlling and dimming the lights, you would need to use either the smart app or Google Home integration as these features are not available through the switch. The lights will remember the last setting they were on before being turned off.

    What is the best plan to build out an entire ceiling with the plastered in LED RGB plus W setup? Is there a Maximum length for the LED strips to keep best quality and also what is best rules for keeping lights cool and long durability ?

  • @Flexfireleds

    Hello @VP411Designs. Our RGBW lights have a max run of 32 feet to keep the best quality of the light. To keep the lights cool and ensure a long lifespan, it is always ideal to make sure you are using aluminum channels to dissipate heat. Our RGB+W Lights come with a 15-year warranty by default, meaning that durability is not a concern, but paired with aluminum channels you can extend even more the lifespan of the lights. Every single project is a bit different so we like to learn more about the setup before we recommend something. You call us at +1 844 353 9347 or email us at support@flexfireleds.com, and we can help you with the best plan for that ceiling!

    Absolutely, you have the option to trim the LED strip at the designated cut marks and reattach it using our solderless connectors. Alternatively, you can repurpose the remaining strip in a new project, in which you'll need a power source and a controller.

    Yes, for a new location, you will require a new power supply and a new controller. Despite the location being in a different part of the house, our Leona Smart Home system (www.flexfireleds.com/leona-smart-home-lighting-system/) enables you to control these locations together or independently.

    Hi @surajpasuparthy ! You can use low-voltage wire to span the distance between the power source and the LEDs. The appropriate wire gauge can be determined based on the distance you need to cover from the power source to the lights and the load of the LEDs.

    If there are more shelves. Should i do a parallel installation comming out of the controller, or do a seriial installation?

  • @Flexfireleds

    @Flexfireleds

    Күн бұрын

    Good question! If the shelves are close to each other, you can hide the wires, and you do not exceed the maximum run length of the LED strip, doing a connection in series is beneficial. If the shelves are far away from each other and/or the total run exceeds the maximum run length of the strip, it is recommended you do a parallel connection.

    Do I always need a controller? I purchased a BTF WS 2811 (24v) and if I connect it to the power source, only the first section of the strip lights up. It stops after the first place where it could be cut.

    It looks like you are using digital LED lights. If that is the case, then yes, you would need a controller for the lights.
