I thought about this and gave it a try. Since the fan is activated when the air is shut off. I purchased a air only shut off switch. I ran two short airlines out. I ran the line off the governor to the input of the air valve then out to the solenoid. It worked flawlessly and I didn’t have to cut into the solenoid line.

Seems like way more work than running 2 wires to the dash no? Did you run the air line to the dash?

Yes I ran the lines right underneath where my catwalk light is. Labeled it air on and air off. Works well for me. It took about 15 mins to do.

+12V to FM19 computer pin will engage engine fan manually. No further wiring is needed. I have a post on trucker forum how to do the mod

He thank you for watching. No i do not get any fault code. Just make sure to not switch it on once fan turn on by itself orherwise it will not turn off as a safety feature until you restart your truck

Hey thanks for the vid. Just to clarify that both of the spliced wires running into your cab to connect to the on/off switch are from the "hot" or positive wire? You do not cut the negative wire at all right?

One more thing.. i dont turn on the switch if the fan is on already. Because then it doesnt turn back of until you restart your truck. A safety feature thats why it does that. But otherwise it works very well

My Volvo is 2012 with D13 engine but my fan clutch is electric. How could I do same thing you did on my truck?

Honestly not sure. I think you find the hot wire and just do it from there. Just google it im sure someone will have some info on that. Sorry man

I had to convert my electric to an on/ off aur hub. VOLVO has a kit for that and they need to reprogram the fan in the ecm. In the long run, it's a better option.

2013 VNL D13 Automatic Fan..

Hi, it tried this, but if the ecm calls for the fan while im overriding it , it throws a fan code. The fan then stays on until I stop and reset the code. Is there a way to prevent that?

I have not have a code come on but if the fan is on and I'm switching the switch on so there's a Open circuit in the wire the fan stays on I have to restart my truck but never had a code come on. Just turn on the fan when it is off then no problem

So when the ecm calls for the fan, it checks for continuity if it gets 12v from the solonoid. All you have to do is put a 5000 ohm resistance where you cut the cable. That way even when your switch is open, the ecu will still measure 12v when it checks

Do you have to plug the connector back in?

@@Tommytv2 hey so I just tried this out today and the manual tan switch works but I wanted to make sure it would go on automatically still too. It didn’t!! Do you know what I may have done wrong ? Truck went to 240 and the fan never came on automatically
