How to Install Decking on a Small Treehouse Platform

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is the 15th and final video in a series hosted by Treehouse Master, Pete Nelson, on how to build a safe treehouse platform using our Tree Fort Hardware System. In this video, Pete and his son, Henry, install cedar decking to finish this small treehouse platform. They demonstrate many tips & tricks for specific issues that come up when decking a treehouse platform, like allowing for tree growth and movement. This treehouse platform is supported by our Tree Fort Hardware System.
Our Tree Fort Hardware System (referred to as "Backyard Hardware" in this video series) is a simplified and more economical version of the standard & heavy duty treehouse hardware we use in larger builds. This Tree Fort Hardware System is designed for small scale builds, think: kid-scale tree forts, sunset decks or tree gazebos.

I’m 64 and started building a tree house just for fun. I wanted to try a spiral staircase up to a deck. I’m still on the stair case, however, I am enjoying myself. You never outgrow the kid in you.. My work is ok, but nothing like these master craftsman. They are the ones that inspired me to go ahead and do it. I think I’ve watched every show they made. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I loved this series. You're doing a good thing here. I just bought a few acres of land in NY and I want to build a treehouse on it. Now I know how I'm going to do it. Will you be making a series on how to attach the walls and ceiling and what not? I would love to see it. Thank you so much. You're the greatest.

Hey Pete! First of all thank you for this very informative series! I learned a lot even for every day construction tips. (I’m an electrical apprentice and a lot of this knowledge can believe it or not be useful one day!) I was wondering how you go about inspecting a tree to verify: A. Structural Integrity B. Healthiness of the tree C. Signs of weakness/potential rot risk (if I build the deck on the tree will it die in 2 years from natural causes such as bugs, etc. ) Also in terms of maintenance and repair: could you do a video series on an old platform you constructed that has been around for awhile that needs maintenance with various forms of issues? Would be great info to know. I want to build one one day and would love to know as much information about how to make a treehouse last many many years (10-20+ years). Also for context of what state I live in, I’m from Oklahoma so information about what trees native to OK would be safe for treehouses would be welcome as well! (I can do this last bit of research on my own for sure though).

We subcontract out all plumbing and electrical since it typically needs to be permitted. But, generally, it is the exact same as a house. Just run down the access.

Instead of clearing trees for housing, this is how we should have built houses from the start and allow wildlife (food) to flourish. But... it's all Starbucks.
