    As long as the previous deck is structurally sound, this is the easiest long term solution I have seen, especially if the wood is teak. Very little maintenance, unless you want the orange brown surface then you need to oil it.

    He replies: BuildDirect, 1 year ago +Casper Man! (Your profile doesn't allow replies, so I hope you see this!) Some people opt to remove deck tiles to store undercover or indoors over the winter and off season in an effort to extend the life and look of their tiles but many others chose leave them out all year round. It completely depends on your preference, and the intensity of any outdoor weather conditions. But, because deck tiles are easy to install and remove and install again, it's convenient to take them inside during the winter if you decide to go that route. Regarding the water: When installed correctly, rainwater will drain, unimpeded, off the deck tile surface and, with proper post installation attention, under the deck tiles and off the structural sub surface. Just make sure to periodically check that dirt and debris don’t accumulate under the tiles and affect the drainage patterns. Standing or pooling water that persists for more than 12 hours after a rainfall indicate that existing drainage may be less than ideal and should be addressed prior to deck tile installation. Hope this helps! If you have any other questions, reach out to us at socialteam@builddirect.com.

    Would polyurethane prevent sun fading and turning gray? I polyurethane my indoor hardwood floors and it is easy to do.

  • @builddirect

    @builddirect

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hi Martin, thanks for watching and for reaching out. Unfortunately, at the moment there isn’t a finish that can completely stop or prevent the fading process, but some will help to minimize the damage over time. Much in the way that direct exposure to sunlight affects skin types differently, the type and quality of sunblock will influence the amount of tanning, burning, etc. The best finishes to slow down fading at the moment are high-end water-based systems with UV inhibitors. Polyurethane will provide some protection simply from the film, but look for something with an added UV blocker and even Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers (HALS). Read your labels! If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to one of our product experts 877-631-2845

    Hi! This is from the decking category manager at BuildDirect: "Installation over dirt or compacted soil is not a recommended condition. Thanks for your response. My concern is more regarding how these deck tiles, once they are all joined together, will anchor to the concrete patio. The patio is surrounded by garden with no walls nearby. Is it perhaps just the backing on the tiles alone that create enough traction to keep it firmly in position?

    Hi Richa Dogra, Thank you for watching and for reaching out. Unfortunately we don't sell to India, as we are based in North America. In general, deck tile is made to be installed in outdoor climates, however, depending on your climate composite deck tile might be best. We would recommend speaking with a local contractor/installer on which products are best for your climate as we can only speak on behalf of climates in the U.S.

    Our pleasure! Installation is super DIY friendly, and the tiles can be taken up pretty quickly if there are any major issues. The biggest thing you want to consider is making sure the subfloor is even, solid (i.e. concrete) and that rain can easily drain, otherwise you will end up with a build-up of water under the deck tile.

  • @builddirect

    @builddirect

    10 жыл бұрын

    Hi Sue. Deck tiles like this are designed to work with your deck or patio's existing drainage. As it rains, water slips between the cracks in between the tiles, and then drains off your deck as normal. For a little bit more explanation, check out this video post (it's talking about composite deck tiles, but the same principle applies). facebook.com/photo.php?v=10152528195910238&permPage=1 Hope this answers your question! How do you use these tiles in a space that presently has grass?

  • @builddirect

    @builddirect

    9 жыл бұрын

    Peggie Zamiaty Hi Peggie. There are a lot of factors to consider in that situation, but the short answer is, it's not typically recommended to use deck tiles on grass. The long answer is, it’s possible but there are a ton of “X” factors that we can’t control. On soft ground, you might experience tiles sinking, possibly deeper in some areas than others causing a misalignment of the surface and potential tripping hazard. Exposure to a perpetually wet environment may cause decay of wood tiles. Even tropical species or thermally modified ones tiles could decay over time. Composite deck tiles also have a high wood content and can decay in a poorly drained area. One option might be to try stone tile with a plastic back, which would be much more decay / environment resistant. Hope this helps! If you have any questions or want more info, please reach out to socialteam@builddirect.com

    Depends if you have them in direct sunlight and you didn't say what you put them on. They work great especially for renters.

    I wondered this too. although in a matter of weeks the grass would be dirt. So the question is would you places these in sand or dirt? Maybe not.

    I bought 55 boxes of these exact tiles from Christmas Tree Shops last fall. They were on sale for half price so I paid only $17.50 per box of 10. I am covering a 29 year old wood deck that is structurally sound but looks terrible. I laid some of them down last fall and am just now finishing up with the ones I stored in my garage for the winter. The tiles that went through the winter lightened up a bit to a nice grayish color compared to the "fresh" tiles I'm now putting down. I will probably treat the whole deck with some teak oil which will restore the grey ones back to their original color. The deck looks beautiful but they don't simply snap together as these videos would have you believe. Cutting them on a table saw has worked fairly well but certain cuts leave pieces of teak that have no screw hole to hold them to the plastic frame. Furthermore, they sometimes are a bitch to snap together--quality control, I suppose. Removing them at the end of the season is not going to happen. When you try to pull these things apart it's difficult and results in broken tabs.

    Hi there, thank you so much for reaching out and for watching our video. Deck tiles are cost effective as in the product itself is cost-effective, as well as the easy installation which saves you the cost of labour for installation :)

    Hi Jamie, Thank you for watching and sharing your opinion! Another alternative would be to lay the deck tiles one way, so that you aren't getting that alternating look. This may help with the "busy" look you are referring to.

    Done that but only good for less than Year and the colour faded due to rain and sun. It accumulated dust and dirt underneath. No good for hygiene for pet lovers

    "It's important to buy your wood flooring tiles from a manufacturer who practices responsible and sustainable forest practices." So if I buy my wood flooring from the same guy I buy my cocaine, I shouldn't expect the quality installation I would get from a tofu eating tree hugger?
