    Thanks for the video, found it as I'm thinking about fitting some, or similar, or maybe even make my own as a home-made electronics project. Past DIY experience has taught me to always connect accessories up and test they work before installing. I know what it's like to remove something I just stuck on with 3M tape...

    Your video is easy to follow & images very clear. This should solve my problem of needing to use headlights during the day, which dims my digital instrument lights into invisibility, thank you! I do have one critique however, you were very careful to not contact any metal when wrenching the positive battery connection. Some of us may be a bit clumsy & spark the wrench. Maybe you could add a caveat to remove the negative cable first, then loosen & attach the positive connection, preventing sparks flying, then finally reattaching the negative cable & negative controller wire.

    No, what you would want to do is to get an add a fuse and find a fuse inside the fuse box that is switch hot. Put the add a fuse into that same slot and then you now have an additional power lead that is fused. It could be called a fuse tap.

    Just been researching the Regulations around the use of these lights as an aftermarket accessory in Australia as my son has bought some for his vehicle. The following is a direct quote from Department of Transport ' The daytime running lamps shall be switched ON automatically when the vehicle's engine starts. The DRL shall switch OFF automatically when the front headlamps are switched ON' Any advice on whether this occurs using the method in the video would be appreciated as dimming doesn't mean switched off.

    What a load of mechanical waste of time garbage. You COMPLETELY skipped over how/where to wire the orange Marker (what is Marker?) wire into what please...? Everybody knows how to use a Philips screwdriver and double sided tape. What about detailing/explaining the electrical/wiring detail (other than the battery - again - simple), in more detail please? Merry Christmas.

    Zoomer that's because on every car it will be different... turn your headlight switch one click the same lights that light up within your headlights are your marker lights. So use a test light to figure out which wire going to that bulb is the power wire and attach the orange wire to that one.

  • @TheDIYGuyDOTnet

    @TheDIYGuyDOTnet

    10 жыл бұрын

    Your welcome. The "T-Tap" is a type of connector used to connect the orange wire to the wire that goes to the marker light / running lights. No cutting or soldiering required when you use one of those. If you click the link in the description it will take you to our website and if you scroll down and click "T-Tap Connector" you can see what I am taking about. Connecting that wire will dim the driving lights when your headlights are on.

    +Karthi Bala Iam not sure what brand you got but i would just test the light by hooking them to the battery to ensure they will turn and off by themselves and you don't need to wire them to a switch. If there is another wire other then the two that go to the battery then I would say that wire will control the dimming function if it doesn't have that extra wire then I would say they doesn't have the dimming capability.

    Cee Bonnick Hello, So to make it easy you can do one of these things 1) not connect the orange wire to anything and the lights wont dim 2) If you click your headlight switch one click so that the running lights come on you will want to locate the lit bulb inside the headlight and then locate the power wire going to it and attach the orange wire to it.

If you use this kit you can just turn you headlight switch one click which will turn on the marker light. Locate where that bulb is on the backside of the headlight and that is where you will use the T -tap to connect the orange wire.

    You would want to buy drl lights that don't have the control box and take the power side and attach it to the power wire of the OEM drl light and then ground to the car or to the ground in the harness going to the light. You could use a test light and test each wire to figure out which one is your drl wire Or you could look up ( google ) a wiring diagram for your car.

    Roberto Aguirre This kit has a control box that turns them on when the car is started and off shorty after the car is turned off. They dim when the orange wire attached to the marker lights gets power. If you leave the orange wire disconnected they will not dim and will be bright all the time.

    These particular driving lights are always on. They will just dim when they see power on the orange wire. So if you wanted them to go completely off they will not. If you wanted them to dim when your headlights go on you would hook the orange wire to the running lights. If you wanted to use them as a fog light and only dim when you have your high beams on attach the orange wire to the high beam wire. If your sure your DRL 's on your vehicle go off you could wire the power wire from the box to your DRL and it will go off when they do And don't connect the orange wire.

    +westbank876 Hello, Its the same model as I used? I would guess either the positive or negative wire going to the battery is not making a good connection. If those seem good maybe you got a bad controller with your lights. It could also be that your alternator is not putting out enough to tell the controller that the car is on. ( We have a video on how to test your alternator) These lights have been in use since 2012 and were moved onto this car in 2014. These lights still work just as good as the day they got them.

    You have the same kit? This kit is a Red, Black and an orange wire. The red n black go to the battery as you have done and the orange should go to the marker light or do not connect if you want them to stay bright all the time. Does it have the control box? These lights stay on for a little bit after the car is turned off. Gives you time to get into the house before they go off. They only way they stay on is if you have a battery charger/ tender on the car as it sees it charging and thinks the car is running.

Some people will not attach the orange wire as they want the lights to stay bright all the time.

    No, As each car will be different. You just need to use a T-tap connector and connect it to your marker light wire or leave it off and the lights will stay bright all the time. ( Helpful if your vehicle doesn't have fog lights.)

    This pair have pretty long cables and have been used/ installed on 4 different cars without having to extend the wires. You could always cut and extend the wires. Cut them mid wire, solder the extension wire in and heat shirk the joints to ensure there water tight.

    Sir, after you had completed your project, and you turned the engine into the "on" position, did the "load" seamed heavier with the new install added? Or, was that slight hesitation just "normal" for your vehicle? Sir, thank you for your video, a great job overall.

    Hello, I am not to sure, If they are the same brand with the control box just without the orange wire.. ( maybe an older version ) They will turn on when the car is started and turn off a few mins after the car is shut off. The orange wire is used to dim the lights.

    Peter Conway With just wires going to the lights and no control box they will stay on unless you install a switch to turn them on and off. You will need a power wire to the switch and then from the switch to the red wire. The black wires will be your grounds. You can connect them together and then to the battery ( neg. side) or you could attach an eyelet and ground each of them to the car with a self taping screw.

    Do you have the exact same lights? If so the box inline controls when the lights turn off and on. They turn on when they see voltage from the alternator (changing the battery) and then turn off within a min or so after the car shuts off and it doesn't see any voltage. If yours doesn't have the inline control box then you will need to wire in a switch. If there LED lights there's really need to wire in a replay because there suck a low draw.

    No problem, I am not sure if you can find/ buy the control box separate maybe you can. Like I said you can always wire in a switch inside the car so you can turn them off and on when you want. If you have factory DRL you could wire them into those so the aftermarket ones will turn on and off with the factory ones.

    @TheDIYGuyDOTnet

    9 жыл бұрын

    SushanMusic The orange wire will be different on every car as the marker lights are in different locations and use different color wires. To figure out where you would need to connect it on your vehicle trun your key to the ON position and then turn your head light switch one click. You should see small lights light up within your headlights these are your marker lights. You can use a test light and hook the clip on the battery and test the wires that go to the bulb to figure out which wire has power. Then use the T-tap to connect the orange wire to the power side of the marker light. Or you can not hook up the orange wire and the driving light will just stay bright.

    Put a switch in so you can turn them off if your charging system quits. I've had that happen way more than having DRL lights make any difference in safety. Can't remember the last time that headlights, even on a cloudy day, would have made a difference except on motorcycles.

    I worked for a company where I had to have another guy drive my car to the next work location close to a hundred miles away and the alternator quit in my 1992 caprice but he was able to turn the headlights off (like the old days) and made the trip ok. I had to work until 9 P.M. so if I had to chase back for my car I would have gotten very little sleep that night. This happened on the famous 9 11 attack. He may not have attempted finding any of my tools if he couldn't just turn off the lights with a switch. In all I don't like features like DRLs that prove more problem causing than safety providing. None of my motorcycles are hard wired for lights as they are even more likely to have charging system failures. I never forget to turn them on anyway especially since the fine in Minnesota is over $125. They seem to be flexible towards good reasons to not have lights though. Have a great day.

    If you have this exact set there is no need for a relay. It has a control box that is wired directly to the battery that will turn them on and off when it see the alternator charging the battery. The control box will also dim them if it see current on the orange wire.. So if the orange wire is hooked up to your marker lights and you turn the marker or headlights on they will dim. If you don't connect the orange wire they will go on and off as normal but won't ever dim.

Hooking it to the fog lights though would let them go bright when you go to high beam as the fog lights go out and wouldn't have power going to them. But you could do what we did on this car and leave the orange wire not attached to anything and they will stay bright all the time.
