    Used this guide for taking the dash apart so I could install the xcarlink for the civic. Brilliant and detailed guide. Just in case anyone was wondering - the xcarlink BT can reach back to the centre console from the stereo and the mic cable is long enough too. Thanks for doing the video.

    I'm using a radio transmitter with USB in my '07 Honda Civic MK8 Hatch, play everything off a flash drive, works fine. In some areas the radio frequency I have mine set to is used by local radio stations so there is some static, but that only happens when I travel cross country, so I don't really care. Normal use has a very slight static hiss to it, not noticeable at normal listening volume. I do want to upgrade the speakers though, and that might require a direct-aux setup like this, otherwise the slight static through the better sound might drive me mad.

    Taking the dash apart is extremely easy, the hardest part was taking the clips out at the top.

    For the lazy, or those having trouble removing the top panel, this part and in fact the entire radio unit doesn't have to be removed if you have nimble hands. Once the centre console is removed, but with the radio still bolted in place, I was able to just feel around the back from underneath and plug the aux cale into the head unit. Just bend the cable back on itself (theres not much room) and keep the plastic clip pointing upwards. you can then just feel for the 2 mental prongs which you should see holes for on the aux plastic plug, use this as your guide for where to go. The aux plug is directly under the radio's number 6 button on left hand drive uk models.

    Hi Paul. Firstly, thanks for the video, it doesn't look too daunting now I've seen you do it. I've ordered the Connects2 kit as well as the orange trims tools, as recommended. I was just wondering, how long (roughly) is the AUX lead that runs from the white box to the phone / iPod? The reason I ask is that I'm thinking of keeping the box hidden within the trim somewhere, then running the AUX cable beneath the trim around the gear stick, drilling through into the front wall of the cup holder and mounting an iPhone cradle there. I'd prefer that to losing my ashtray, that's where my sunglasses go! haha It looks like a standard lead so if it's too short I'm sure I can find a longer replacement if needed, it'd just be handy to know in advance. Steve

    I have the sat nav model and you have to splice a couple of cables as they share the same slot in the plug, I did it by removing the connector from the plug and sliding the wire down the side of the connector as I put the plug back into its slot, works perfectly. No issues with the normal working of any in car equipment and the cables were solid in the plug. I've wired it to a Bluetooth dongle in the arm rest(also 2xusb in there) and listen via Bluetooth...connects when I get in the car.

    Hi, really great video! I’ve the same car which I bough recently off a private seller but my battery goes flat every 2 days. I noticed the previous owner had 3 charging cables, a Bluetooth kit and an aux kit connected to the radio which I wanted to remove to see if it helped stopped the drainage. This video was great and I was able to get everything removed within an hour, I wouldn’t have had a clue where to start without this. P.s the battery still goes flat and I’ve been reading in forums that this seems to be very common and widespread. Anyone else have this issue and no what’s causing it?

  • @jordan4541

    @jordan4541

    6 жыл бұрын

    Never heard this to be common for the 06-11 models. I have an 06 model (with sat nav). If anything is going to make your battery drain faster, it may possibly be the fact that something is being left plugged into the cigarette lighter, but then again I leave my devices plugged into there. Also check for any corrosion between your battery terminals, I cleaned this when I first bought the car last year using baking soda

  • @paigeireland5921

    @paigeireland5921

    Jordan Lucky thanks for the reply! I thought it might have been the Bluetooth kit and chargers that seemed to be hardwired into the radio by the previous owner so I’ve removed them and replaced the battery but I still have to disconnect the battery when parking up. The terminals seem to be pretty clean I’m wondering if it could be a loose connection somewhere which means the battery isn’t getting a full charge when driving but if I disconnect the battery it starts first time everytime. I definitely think something is live when the ignition is off I just don’t know what

    The chargers and all that shouldn't really have been a problem if they were being used with the engine running and not alone on battery power. It may not even be the battery at at all, it could come down to being a faulty charging system or a bad alternator which isn't giving out enough voltage. I wouldn't take it anywhere else to be looked at except for Honda

    Civics had a recall on battery earth leads I think. Try google search 'civic battery earth fault' or variations and follow links to Civic forums for info

    Hi, tried this on my 2006 Uk civic (mk 8) and no luck. The dash CD/Aux does not switch the system to CDC. I have a factory Panasonic head unit. Am I missing something? Perhaps Honda used more than one type of Panasonic kit? Thanks.

    Hey Dude, Did you manage to get that working. I've got the whole thing apart and my Connects2 plugged in. Tried everything but when i press the Aux button - nothing happens. It works for putting the CD on but can't get it to CDC--1. I'd hate to put it back together to take it all apart again.

    They put the port for usb and aux in the storage compartment behind handbrake from end of 2008 onwards so earlier models don't have it.

    @@Sn1k3rS simplest way to do that is a Bluetooth radio transmitter that you plug into the cigarette lighter port. I had one before my android unit installed. Could play music from phone to radio and take and receive calls

    I bought a Jabra Cruiser2 (now called Freeway) that connects Bluetooth to my phone and transmits FM to my radio (programmable choice of freq) and clips to my visor. Gives hands free phone calls too, and auto cuts the music. £90, fitted in seconds.

    I own a Honda Civic SE I-VTEC '06 yeah. But my question is why couldn't Honda just put a bloody Aux port on these cars by default (like other car makers do) instead of having us to do this by ourselves or taking it to other mechanics to do?
