How to Install Code Appropriate Dryer Ventilation

Hazardous Dryer Vent Duct Work has been Installed In many homes. The most common thing we see is over 8 feet of flexible transition hosing used in the crawl space instead of standard UL listed galvanized steel piping. Huge fire hazard and should NEVER be used as dryer ventilation.
Solution- This process involves removing all hazardous duct work and correctly installing galvanized steel hard pipe to meet all code requirements and ensure SAFTY for the household.

I love that code has something to say about vent. But nothing about placement of water supply. Good luck shutting your water off in case of a leak.

Once you get it in the horizontal plane you could use a 45 . This will give a short cut , then use another 45 on the other end . two 45s are less restrictive than a 90, and there's probably several feet less pipe

Very valuable and timely. My challenge is doing this between 1st and 2nd floor. I REALLY appreciate this video!

In Canada you have to insulate your pipe in the attic and minimum 4 feet on the warm side ( inside the house ) by code You crimped end has to go towards the outside what you did is afire hasard. I’ve been in residential heating for over 40 years

Everyone says the water supply is not up to code. They say the exit through window of your dryer vent is not up to code. But guess what? They supply you with the accordion type vent, which you say is not up to code. I think you need to send this to the companies that make dryers.

Looks really good.. but I am thinking it would be best for all the 'crimped' ends of the duct go in the same direction of the air flow so that it won't catch lint ?

You’re the first video I’ve see that mentions taping the seam on the pipe. I would only tape seams on interior wall areas. Attic/crawl space piping don’t matter really unless it’s a conditioned space. I’m also impressed to see you seal around the penetration. I’d have used some spray foam myself but your method seems to work. Thanks for sharing.

If you have a long run like that on a dryer it will take forever for your clothes to dry.. instead of going through all that trouble to run a vent up through the Attic, just buy a good LG heat pump dryer and you will not need to run a vent. 50% more efficient than any electric or gas dryer and there is no need for a vent.

You should look into long sweep 45 or 90s. More costly but better air flow (less flow loss).

you could probably use that as backer rod to hold the vent in place and then fill the void on the other side with spray foam, cut flush and use compound to fill that gap tight.

I would use 3M red fire rated barrier caulking for pipe penetration between floors (besides other suggestion above but already too late unless you want to redo) otherwise VERY useful info

One big thing is wrap that vent hose in insulation to prevent condensation and mold in your attic ! Might be too late already, and that small foam does not seal near good enough like if you got silicon and sealed it after.

question for you... I live in a condo and have an upstairs neighbor. I can't change out the flexible one with ease. Can I cover it by using the steel hard pipe as a brace?? Im renovating my laundry closet but don't know the best way to handle that transition hosing.

Hello K.B! ADT is a DIY channel but ultimately seeks Professional opinion when possible. We appreciate the inquiry, to partly assist the hosing used should be one or the other. We recommend contacting the Landlord for safety and concern.
