Pro-Tip: How to Easily Connect Dryer Vent Duct to Wall and Dryer

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This method works on all types of dryer ducts. I use a flexible duct in the video, but you can apply it to semi rigid and rigid ducts as well. If your rigid duct won’t slip over the wall side, cut 4 one inch notches at the 10, 2, 4, and 8 o’clock positions. This should open the mouth and help you slip it on. Thank you so much for this video. Had to replace the dryer duct and using the tape, plus the clamps made the difference. Quick and tight connection made.

Yeah here’s how I like to do it… 1. Attach hose to dryer. 2. Push hose onto vent outlet on wall. 3. Lacerate hand on vent outlet. 4. Go to ER for sutures. 5. Come home trim bloodstained aluminum from end of hose. 6. Attach hose to vent outlet. 7. Try to repair tear in hose with metal tape. 8. Tape the hose in place. 9. Move dryer back in place. 10. Observe that hose disconnected from dryer and is now crushed. 11. Put tools back. Drink. Give up.

I am cleaning my vent and I want to pop the side, can’t seem to get the front to open. Plus the bigger problem , How to get out of the back of dryer. If I angle enough to slip through, tube slips off. Seems to be a good size, if I wanted to live behind the dryer. I’m thinking to get my step stools and go over top! I’m only 78 yrs young. What you think? Any advice? 😀

I just cleaned out my vent duct. It hasn’t been done in 20 years since the house was built. I used one of those $20 kits. It worked pretty well. Any tips on using those?

A good 50 years ago owners were warned NOT to use that flexible junk because lint accumulates in it like crazy!!!!!!

I’ve cleaned over 5,000 dryer vents and can tell you that there is little difference in accumulation between the rigid, semirigid, and flexible connecting ducts. Plus these newer flexible ducts have a Teflon-like lining that helps prevent build up. Additionally, the flexible ones offer three key benefits that the others don’t: they can bounce back if accidentally pinched, they can compress better in tight spaces, and they seal better to the dryer and wall ports.

Inside diameter of most 4” flexible ducts will stretch to measure 4 and 1/16” or 1/8”. Believe in the stars ✨

Thought it always had to be female into male in the direction of flow? Didn’t you just create a lint collection seam? Let me know.

The seam is nearly negligible in this particular case. You may get a little bit of build up there, but the benefit of having a super tight hold by securing it with a clamp from the outside outweigh any possible slight buildup. The alternative is shoving the flexible duct into the wall port, and that would be significantly worst for lint collection. If you have a better idea, let me know of course.

What happens if there’s a hole in it

  • @Pro-XOKC

If the hole is on the end, use a diagonal cutter to snip the end off down a bit to a fresh section. If it’s in the center, it’s best to just buy a new duct. If you don’t want to do that, the metal tape in the video can be used to wrap the area with the hole. Pull it taut, wrap the tape, then slowly collapse it again so the tape takes the shape of the duct.
