    The hoses on my several years old pump are cracking. We bought a used 18"×48" Coleman Steel aboveground pool 3 years ago. Pool is still perfect, as is pump, its the hoses. So i can't find the exact pump that came with the pool, this one will work, I am hopeful. Our pool has same connection set up as yours. Oh, love the background accompaniment

    I upgraded mine to a sand filter last year. Bought it off of Amazon (amzn.to/4alXGLN) and it's cheaper now than when I bought it last year. Worked great all last summer but I haven't yet hooked it back up. I followed the installation instructions from this other YT video (kzread.info/dash/bejne/hnl6prGiiq7Xd8o.htmlsi=fy4hlUMiSFGkKt6N). I've bought replacement hoses for my pumps on Amazon. They're all about the same quality but what I do is make sure the hoses are supported in such as way as to not be pulling at their connection points. In other words, I'll put a bucket or a tray under the hoses at the midpoint to help straighten the hose and not have as hard a bend where they enter/exit the valves. Keeps them from cracking as quickly.

  • @FixEverythingYourself

    No, pump doesn't need to run constantly. If the pump is the right size for your pool, it'll need to run 8-10 hours per day to cycle all the water through the filter each day. And prime time for running the pump is during the day when people are (or would be) swimming. But doesn't need to run all night.

    Another "thanks" to you for posting that video about the pumps. I had mine hooked up properly , but the manual was not that easy to understand about letting the air out. The Bestway / Coleman pools are great, but I find their instructions are lacking details that *I* think would be helpful. Do you leave your pump running 24/7 ? I had a smaller pool, and the pump actually had a timer attached to it. This one does not. Again, something that most people probably wouldn't think about, but people like me might like to know for clarity :)

    The part in the pool that supposed to suck the water in feels like it’s vibrating but it’s hard to see if water is going in. We can see it come out the other side. Is that normal?

  • @FixEverythingYourself

    @FixEverythingYourself

    Жыл бұрын

    Hmmm, vibrating is a bit weird. That may indicate that there's a kink in the line or somehow the water isn't flowing in properly. Mine doesn't vibrate. I recommend making sure there are no kinks or sharp bends in the hose. Maybe also make sure the water is flowing downhill to the pump as much as possible. If the pump is elevated and has to suck the water uphill, that could be causing a lack of water to get to the pump and possible vibration. Another thing is to make sure that the outlet hose (into the pool) isn't kinked and that the valve at the pool connection is in the unlocked/open position (i.e., water can flow into the pool). It's possible that if there's a blockage of some sort on the outlet, it would cause problems on the inlet side, too. Last thing I'd recommend is to make sure there's no air in the pump. This can definitely cause noise and possibly vibration problems. To check/remove air from the pump, turn the pump off and make sure any valves on the inlet or outlet hoses are OPEN. Then unscrew the top knob on the pump until you hear air hissing as it comes out and/or water comes out. Once the hissing stops and only water is coming out, you know that you've removed all air.

  • @obisteve

    Mine seems to consistently fill with air once I switch it on and is very noisy with a reduced outflow. If I open the air release while it’s on it seems to work a bit better. I can’t see how air is getting in as all connections look good. Any ideas?

  • @FixEverythingYourself

    @FixEverythingYourself

    Жыл бұрын

    With the pump off, look at all of the hoses and see if there's any air at any place in the hose. Perhaps the hose is trapping some air somehow. Try lifting the hoses off the ground (while connected) to see if there are air pockets somewhere. If so, you may just need to move the pump to a lower location or arrange the hoses a little differently to prevent this.

  • @FixEverythingYourself

    It's probably going to be fine but since it's easy to rearrange them, I'd recommend correcting it. I think the discharge port with the wider slots will do a better job discharging and, if it's reversed, won't stop some of the bigger stuff that the intake ports are supposed to filter out. But obviously it's working okay right now so I don't think it'll damage anything in the short term.

    It needs to run long enough to filter approximately the entire pool. But unless you know how much the pump pumps per hour, that answer probably isn't helpful 😄. So I'd say 8-12 hours/day in the summer is appropriate. But doesn't need to run all night. And there may be a timer on the plug itself that you can set to the daily duration you want.

Push one of the buttons on the plug (can't remember which) until 4 or 5 lights are lit up. The pump will now run that many hours every day, and it'll turn on at the same time each day as when you plugged it in for the first time. For example, if you do this at 8 p.m. tonight, the pump will turn on at 8 p.m. every night and run for 8 hours. It should run during the day instead.

Then you have to take the circular gray lid (has a black rubber o-ring on it) and place it in the opening on the top of the pump. Where’s the (sand) filter?

    This pool doesn't come with one, just this paper filter pump. Sam's Club sells nearly this same pool with a sand filter for $400. Just saw it yesterday.

    @@FixEverythingYourself I bought the Sam's $400 pool. It MAY last you one season and then the hoses all spring leaks and the pump stops working too.

    I bought the Bestway Steel Pro Max from Academy two years ago. The pump is cheap so I replaced it with a sand filter, as I noted. My hoses cracked, too, so I bought new ones. I still think I got my money's worth on the pool because it holds water and is so much cheaper than an in-ground pool. But I hear you on the low-quality nature of a lot of the accessories.

    Why would there be a water cut off switch on the re-entry of the water?

  • @FixEverythingYourself

    Without it, water will flood out of the pool when you open the filter housing. So either the pump/filter would need to be higher than the level of the return hose, or a valve/shutoff is needed.

    Thx for the reply! Yes my return valve is alittle higher than water line( adds nice sound) i can see this valve useful for the exit valve. I simply discount the intake line to the pump and put it over the edge into pool. Strange the factory didnt hv a turn off valve for the exit hose.

    Correct, but from the vantage point of the pump, the first comment is correct (water goes from pump "into" A).
