Some cost installers are not factoring in especially here in the Northeast, which is carpentry for fire rated walls or battery enclosures due to AHJ code requirements. I've seen a lot of battery jobs get installed and fail inspection or don't get commissioned.

Are fire rated walls needed for iron lithium phosphate batteries? Seems like a big unnecessary expense, when the lithium iron phosphate chemistry doesn't pose the same fire risks as lithium w/ nickel & cobalt. The older Tesla Powerwall didn't use iron phosphate, but nearly all packs made today do.

@@GoldenDumpling The question isn't if they're needed, but if they're required. Codes don't instantly change to reflect current technology. @thomaslkenney points out that installers need to be aware of local AHJ requirements, not just national codes.

You bring up a good point which highlights the need to be sure to get full permit approval before starting any work. UL 9540A and the LFP chemistry aside, OEMs work constantly with AHJs to help integrate updated NFPA guidance through the approval process for safe and efficient installations.
