How to Install UNAVI Wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto

00:00:04 1. Use removal keys to remove OEM radio
00:00:18 2. Review the connections behind the radio
00:00:30 3. Determine a place for the CarPlay module
00:01:12 4. Pull AC control panel forward
00:01:27 5. Remove 4 screws on the radio top plate
00:01:46 6. Remove radio top plate
00:01:59 7. Remove 2 screws on CD mechanism
00:02:11 8. Gently lift up CD mechanism and set aside
00:02:29 9. Disconnect RMC ribbon cable from radio motherboard
00:02:37 10. Connect smaller ribbon cable to internal adapter board
00:03:31 11. Connect smaller ribbon cable to the radio motherboard
00:03:59 12. Remove 2 screws on radio motherboard
00:04:11 13. Screw in the 2 mounting screws on the radio motherboard
00:04:27 14. Install the internal adapter board onto the mounting screws
00:05:01 15. Connect RMC ribbon cable to internal adapter board
00:05:33 16. Remove 2 screws behind the radio
00:05:45 17. Connect the larger ribbon cable to the external adapter board
00:06:05 18. Install the external adapter board behind the radio
00:06:20 19. Fold and route the larger ribbon cable into the radio
00:06:49 20. Connect the larger ribbon cable to the internal adapter board
00:07:08 21. Reassemble the radio
00:08:12 22a. Drop the glove box - remove 6 screws
00:08:27 22b. Drop the glove box - pull two clips
00:08:54 23. Route the headlight control unit connector to the glove box area
00:09:18 24. Connect the headlight control unit connector to the headlight control unit
00:09:54 25. Connect the climate control cable to the climate control panel
00:10:50 26. Connect the CarPlay Main cable to the OEM radio harness
00:11:01 27. Connect the CarPlay LVDS cable to the OEM LVDS cable
00:11:28 28. Mount the Wi-Fi antenna
00:11:42 29a. Splice the ground wires and position the CarPlay USB cable
00:12:09 29b. Ground wires are spliced
00:12:19 30. Configure the dip switch settings and apply foam tape
00:12:41 31. Connect the cables to the CarPlay module
00:12:59 32. Demonstration of location of CarPlay module
00:13:18 33. Connect the cables to the external adapter board and behind the OEM radio
00:13:41 34. Push back the OEM radio into place
00:14:12 35. Connect the AMI cable

Everything physically speaking looks the same. However the carplay screen display looks great.
So do you have to connect your phone to the aux cable to hear audio?

Hi this is one of the techs here at unavi. No you don't our harness taps into the wiring part of the AUX behind the radio in order for CarPlay to be heard through the car speakers. Our module is connected to that harness as well as integration system. All you have to do is connect (whether wired or wireless) your phone to the carplay system and you will be to enjoy the sound through the speakers of the car. Thank you for your comment.

I have a 2017 Q3 with aux port in center console armrest. Wouldn’t I need that to get audio from the screens output? :)

Hello, we use the Audi AMI port in the arm rest for sound. We use an AMI plug in the port so that you can listen to audio through the AUX media option. Thank you and have a great day!!

Hello friend, first thing congratulations for this wonderful video. If many people are afraid to install, now it’s so easy and quickly. I have one of this, but if you could help me please. CarPlay audio is okay, I can listen radios all around the world. But USB and mirroring with iPhone I have no audio. I’ve tried so many things but no success. The AMI cable included with set is connected but in dashboard displays shows not connected. Could you help me about this? I’ll appreciate so much. Thank you.

The second guy didn’t explain it better then the first guy,the first guy showed what he was doing as he said it,the second didn’t,the whole purpose of watching is to watch u do what u say,and not just say it .
