While, I go over common ways to install RAM into your PC, your motherboard, not all motherboards support the same configurations. Please check your motherboard manual to be 100% sure. Also, we also did make 1 mistake, the date and lot code portion, though not really a mistake. This was originally How to install RAM in a PC for Beginners but it would work out fine as How to install RAM in a PC for Beginners as well. Original How to Install and Configuring RAM in a PC Easy To Follow Guide, you know if your wondering how to install ram in pc.
Different memory manufacturers place their date/lot codes in different places, and their sequence codes as well, though the naming could be different as well. So the date and lot code here, on these sticks of RAM is "2865 2021 Nov", built in November probably 28th, lot 65 in 2021. Here, since it is its own sticker, the sequence differentiates the memory, 21454955296, 21454955294, 21454955295, 21454955293, the number at the end, 3,4,5,6 tells you which is which. I hope this makes sense to you, if not, please let me know in the comments and I can help you.
We show you how to install RAM on the Asus ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING (WI-FI) as an example, but I show you how to configure the RAM on the ASUS TUF Gaming Z690-Plus WIFI D4 motherboard. We then show you how to configure XMP and we show you the timings and how to set them but I don't set them because we are using an XMP profile so you can see if RAM Speed really matter. This will show you how to change ram speed in bios but it will help you how to install new ram in pc and installing ram in a pc or installing new ram on pc.
How to install ram in a PC for Beginners and we go over how to install ddr4 ram in pc or how to install ddr4 ram into a pc. Having the RAM correctly installed can mean the difference between dual channel memory and single channel memory, dual of course providing the most performance.

I bought two sticks of ram few months ago bought two new ones last week now my pc will blue screen randomly in games they are the exact models as far as i can tell Ddr4 3200mhz cl16 ocpc even the same manufacturer Samsung But i cannot get xmp working on it only works on 2133 without xmp Is there any fix or will i have to sell my ram

They are not the same, install them like I show you here and you will probably not be able to use xmp together. You will have to cater your speeds to the slowest one, and the higher voltage.

yeah, I try not to, but it's hard to think of it all, it's only common sense, if you find out about it first, and if you have never heard about something, you don't know anything about it to establish common sense, so I try hard to help everyone with even the simplest of tasks, because if you have never done it, it can be scary, but after your first time,... it's cake. Here’s something that can change your way of life or thinking. This is the most important thing you will hear/read today. If you’ve told one lie, stolen anything, or lusted (which is adultery of the heart), you’ll be found guilty on Judgment Day and end up in Hell. But there’s good news: Though we broke God’s Law, Jesus, the prophesied Messiah, perfectly kept the Law, fulfilling all righteousness. He paid the fine for sinners ( that we could never pay ) by suffering and dying on the cross-absorbing the wrath of God that we deserve. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Then Jesus rose from the dead and was seen by hundreds of eyewitnesses. Today, repent and trust Jesus; God will grant you forgiveness and the gift of eternal life. God bless God Bless

You just earned another subs. I'm a complete beginner to the PC community. I bought a used PC with only one stick of 8GB RAM and I bought a new one to increase it to 16GB. After that, I booted up my PC and my monitor doesn't have any signal, I was panicking and scared cause it's my first PC I bought with my own money and at that time I thought just getting a new RAM is gonna be easy. The pre-installed RAM has 2666MHZ and the one I inserted has 3200MHZ. So I was like maybe that's why, but when I did a bit of research, that my MOBO and CPU has lower max RAM speeds than the new RAM I bought and it says that the MOBO will auto down clock the higher RAM speed to match up the limit from the MOBO. But even then, my monitor has no signals from my PC even after I boot it up. Now I'm just using the pre-installed RAM 1x8GB 😅

Well thank you so much my friend, I am so very happy I could help you and I thank you so much for your support it means the world to me. As for the RAM, yeah it can be a bit picky but if you drop in the 3200Mhz RAM alone, set the RAM speed to 2666Mhz, with the highest of the 2 voltages and set RAS, CAS, TRAS and the others to Auto you should be good to add the other, maybe not perfect though. Give that a try and see if it helps, in this case you cannot use XMP, you have to set that to Manual and the RAM sticks have to be in slot 2 and 4.

I have 2 sets of 2x8 @ 3600. Once I put the matching sets together on their channels. It's been smooth. I know this is a beginner guide, but if you're going through the entire process of configuring memory in bios etc as well I would recommend testing and making sure the overclock (xmp is an overclock) is also stable. i recommend memtest86 mounted on a usb boot drive as it will test the full address range outside of windows 10. But other than that. very good guide thanks.

thanks bud, XMP is an overclock, but since it was developed, I have never had an issue with XMP, ever. I wanted to teach people how to set the memory up through JEDEC standards, but, a 13 minute video would have turned out to be a 20 minute video. Finding voltages, finding where the timings are then telling people which should be set where, that would have failed well out of a beginner guide. XMP, falls perfectly into a beginners guide, and chances are, any stick of memory you buy will have an XMP profile.

@@ThisBytesForYou Yeah, maybe I was unlucky but I had actually gotten an unstable ram kit once recently. It was 2x16 GB CL18 3600 Mhz g skill ripjaws. Pretty common ram. Didn't like the overclock XMP profile 1 in a msi b550 bios with a 5600x. Failed memtest with memory overlcock but was fine in JEDEC (2333 Mhz or something). Replaced with corsair ram same speed and timing and it worked perfectly and passed memtest. Go figure. The unstable ram caused slight instabilities with CTD's in game but that's about it daily driving was stable.

Prior to ordering these GSkill sticks, I had just bought Corsair memory for my new build, my older workstation died, so I figured to go all out. Sadly, the Corsair, XMP or JEDEC would only post when it wanted to, and stay working when it wanted to as well, worked perfectly fine with some older Patriot Viper 4133Mhz, but I only had 32Gigs, I wanted 64Gigs for Video and photo editing, to make sure I had 0 hiccups. 3 days of playing with that, i sent the memory back (which was not a bad thing, because I didn't realize I ordered 3200Mhz RAM) and then bought these, slightly faster 3600Mhz, but also with tighter timings and running XMP all day long, not a single issue with these. If anything, XMP helps you find issues quicker I guess haha. Glad you got everything working, but in both cases, it wasn't XMP, it was just defective RAM, XMP just showed the issue quicker. I don't know about you, but I don't want JEDEC, I want rated speeds.

the other thing I didn't mention (for 2 reasons) was the QVL. The Qualified Vendor List has all the memory that was tested to work on the board. As product development engineer, I worked with companies to get memory tested when there was issues but they would only test and certify memory that was paid to get tested... that seems very shady to me. I won't say which motherboard manufacturers, this was before my days reviewing, so that's 1 reason I don't use QVL and the other is because they mostly don't have RAM I want to use on there hahaha. But the QVL is there to let you know what RAM is good to use and if it's not there, you run the risk of it not working, and also potentially support not working with you because if its not on the QVL, that's the issue. Chances are the RAM is going to work, but when using RAM, I at least like to verify if for AMD, it is stated that it is certified AMD compatible and the same for Intel.

  • @cipherbenchmarks

    @cipherbenchmarks

    2 жыл бұрын

@@ThisBytesForYou interesting read, you have an interesting background! In regards to the QVL I also find that these are rarely up to date - could be because memory manufactures are constantly changing their model numbers / chipsets or they just don't have the testing capability for all the different memory that's out in the wild currently. There's a good chance alot of the memory model numbers that are listed in Gigabyte or Msi etc motherboard QVLs aren't even purchasable anymore as they are older model skews. Once again thanks for the video, you should do a video on your experience in the field.

For now, what you can do, is change the memory from XMP, and set it to the lowest speed of all the memory, and the highest voltage of the memory. So if one stick was 2800Mhz and the other was 3200Mhz, set it to 2800Mhz. For voltage if one is 1.4 volts and the other is 1.2volts, set it to 1.4volts. I am not saying that is what the speed or voltage is of your memory, just an example. The issue COULD be in the RAS, Tras, Cas latencies, if they are drastically different, set it to the highest. for example, if 1 stick is 9,9,9,28, and the other is 10,10,10,32, set the timings to 10,10,10,32. Try not to touch the timings unless you need to.

After watching this vid, Im a little confused whether I can put all 4 larger sticks in as I notice that the CL numbers are different from 1 set to the other. ie CL 16-18-18-38 1.35v and the other is CL 16-20-20-40 1.35v. Can I throw all these 4 sticks in my new pc?

well, first, while it isn't 100%, check to make sure the memory is in the QVL, if its in the QVL, qualified vendor list, a list you can find on the motherboard manufacturers support site for your board: www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B660M-GAMING-X-AX-DDR4-rev-1x/support#support-memsup, if its there for sure it works, if not, there is a big change it will work, but it may not. If you watched the video, I show you how to you can get both to work together, but because they are different CAS settings, its best to set the XMP setting to Auto, see if it works. If it doesn't work, enable XMP, see where it sets it to 16-18-18-38, then change it to manual, and change it to 16-20-20-40 at 1.35Volts also make sure you install the memory the way I show you..

So I have 2 ddr3 ram slots, and the spec sheet of my motherboard says it can take 16gb. So 2 x 8gb. It came with 1 x 8gb installed. I have tried a few different sticks that are the same speed and stuff but in the second slot, no new ram will register, it just shows the single 8gb. But if I put the new ram in on its own, the pc just won't boot or show display. So I want to make sure there's nothing else I can try before I spend more money on a matching pair of 2x8gb. I've tried the cmos battery and also the jumper to clear the cmos and reset everything. In the past this has worked for new components.

I first removed the 2 ram sticks that I bought new and now everything seems to be working normally. I have now seen in your video that these numbers are important which are on the ram sticks on my old 2 ram sticks the last digits are 49 and 50 but on my new ones the last digits are 23 and 75 that means these new ram sticks are incompatible? or can I use them?

Hey, Bytes, this is a long shot, but: Would you happen to know why I'm getting 100% Disk Usage after having upgraded my RAM and doing a BIOS update/CMOS reseating? My PC's never had this issue before, but now it's instant 100% usage from the moment I login. I've tried scanning the system, and using CrystalDiskCheck, but they both showed the HDD as being in perfect health. I don't know what more I can do at this point, besides cloning my HDD to an SDD.

open task manager, right click on the taskbar, and click "Task Manager",, there click the tab that reads "Disk", this will sort it by whats eating up your disk, you can right click on it and select end task. If that doesn't work, click start, type CMD, right click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as Administrator". This that command prompt, run each of these lines Each will take a bit. SFC /scannow DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth Either way, I don't recommend cloning a disk, especially one you are having issues with, your copying the problem to another drive, that doesn't make sense, make a clean install of windows, I have videos on both though. A clean install will make you feel like you have a brand new computer, ESPECIALLY if you are installing on an SSD versus an HDD, I have a video coming out on that, stay tuned.

@@ThisBytesForYou So, after several more hours, I looked into Event Viewer. I saw an error pop up during my latest session, about some paging file (can't remember what it was) that couldn't be written to due to running out of space for the file. Googled the error, and found a random article about a way to modify the size of the file to go from 25mb to 256+mb, so it won't fill up so quickly. Rebooted the PC (and reseated the HDD for good luck), and the Disk Usage shows as 30-51% on the Processes Tab, but would sometimes show 100% on the Performance Tab (it never went above 51 on Processes). My programs still ran fine, and everything launched up, so the HDD was still healthy. I used that chance to follow your Macrium Cloning video, and cloned my HDD to my new 2TB SSD. Took an hour-and-a-half to finish. No errors or issues, and I tested the SSD. Booted up within 10 secs (my HDD took several minutes to boot up, so I was amazed at the SSD speeds). All my files were on the SSD and applications ran fine. I was honestly surprised that Macrium was able to copy my Linux partition (I dual boot) without any issue. With all that, I'm just waiting for my heatsink to come in (I'm dumbfounded that m.2 SSDs don't ship with a mounting screw + heatsink by default), and then I plan to replace my HDD with a SATA SSD for extra storage. Thank you for your PC breakdown video, as I've always been wary of looking into PCs, much less modifying one! I do have one question: When I boot from my SSD, it shows as still being C drive, even though it should be my D drive. I know it's my SSD, since I have tabs open on it that I don't on my HDD. Just wanted to know, if it's supposed to showing up that way? I checked on System Configuration tool, and it only lists the one OS, even though both my SSD and HDD are bootable.

Great info to have, a 256gig M.2 is TINY,, I always recommend at LEAST a 500Gig for a C drive, sure at first you have a lot of free space, but it fills up quick. A page file is virtual RAM, A system managed page files automatically grows up to three times the physical memory (If you have 8Gigs, it can grow to 24Gigs, 16gigs can grow to 48Gigs and so on ) when the system commit charge reaches 90 percent of the system commit limit. It doesn't worry about free space,.... thats when windows crashes and acts up, because it doesn't have free space and your drive is QUICKLY try to process what is occurring, 100% disk utilization because the drive is full and is fully being used. As for linux, thanks for letting me know, I was not 100% sure. I know a physical cloner will copy it, but wasn't sure how deep Macrium went. Yes that is a limitation of many cloning titles. Go into Disk Management, right click the start button and click "Disk Management", located the older disk that shouldn't be the C drive, right click on the partition and click "Change drive letter and paths..." apply and Ok and you are good.

It works fine at first and then once it starts getting hot the screen flickers and then eventually will not come back on. I thought it was the wire, because I pinched it when I first put the HP back together. Replaced the wire and it's better and doesn't immediately start happening, but still eventually does the same. IF I leave the top cover unsnapped and just lay it on top (without the keyboard connected), the issue does not occur (which is why I think it's a heat issue). There is not a fan in the PC as well. Will adding a fan fix this? What do you think is causing this? Will removing the battery fix this--could it be the CMOS? I didn't reset it or change any settings like you did in the video. Also, it has always gotten hot right below the mouse pad (from day 1). I have always had to be careful with it, because if it gets too hot the mouse pad will quit working. Ughh, I just built my PC and put them in A1 B1.. instead of A2 B2 like you say and my manual say... My huge heatsink and fan on my CPU blocks me from taking them out without removing the entire heatsink and fan assembly and putting them in the 2 slots... I do not have any extra thermal paste, I dont have any issues atm with performance or stability but should I buy some new thermal paste and take them out of the 1 slots and move them to the 2 slots? Or is it not that big of a deal? It is an intel bases system if that matters. i7 12700k and Asus z690 D4 board

  • @ThisBytesForYou

yes, I do recommend buying some extra thermal paste so that once you remove the heatsink, you can clean both surfaces and reapply. You don't have issues yet or that you know of, is your machine picking up the correct amount of RAM? It is a big deal since chances are you are running on single channel, and it would affect Intel and AMD systems alike because both have the memory controllers built into the CPU. You can leave it if you like, but I would not.

They could have removed it because there were issues, the updates since 2.60 (which doesn't exist on their site) are AGESA updates, which have to do with memory, cpu and more. It could be so many things, doesn't sound like RAM though, but of course it can be. Have you checked your CPU and GPU Temps? I like to use HWMonitor, GPU-Z and MSI Afterburner to check temps. Gaming and Workstation tasks like Solidworks, AutoCAD, etc punish your CPU and GPU. GPU more if you are using GPU acceleration but if you have 2 monitors, I would highly suggest, have 1 monitor doing you rendering or 3D modelling, then have up on the other, HWMonitor and GPU-Z monitoring your temperatures and you may notice them quickly going over 99°C, the tJunction for most hardware is between 90 and 99°C and if it passes that, it will usually throttle (lowering the speed to keep it from burning out) but if its too much it will just quit. The other thing could be power, So that I can help, please list the manufacturer and exact model number of the following components: 1. Motherboard - manufacturer and exact model number 2. CPU - manufacturer and exact model number 3. RAM - manufacturer and exact model number 4. Video Card - manufacturer and exact model number 5. Power supply - manufacturer and exact model number 6.
