I tried this with a Billy bookcase, there was no lip on the edge or molding to hide the light strip so it looked juvenile and tacky. Then I went with battery powered push-up lights instead and now it looks DOPE! How you decorate and arrange stuff makes all the difference in the world, take your time.

Hello! Philips Hue has that function! there's an app for your phone to control the light strip. But the one I used here is just the generic light strip with no remote control option :)

How did you get the lights through the shelf that wouldn't detach?

I actually loosened it but to be honest I didn't need to since the gap was big enough for the LED strip to slide through :)
