Silly me. I studied electronics back in the day and completely forgot about 'band pass filters'. Of course this is how you 'sift out' the sub-woofer signals. Well done son! Very useful tip and reminder.

@@Work_G Unfortunately for you it's basically a dead industry in the West. Unless you are an engineer working with CAD and Bots, you're never going to be involved in anything of interest. However, people do spend big on their car stereo systems nowadays. Sometimes more than the 'go fast' items. Working at a 'high end' Car Audio place would make for a great first job, while you're putting yourself through Uni!

The way I did it was to use an LOC (line out converter) that has a remote wire that powers on when it senses an audio signal. An extra 12volt outlet was used for the power source of the LOC.

Almost any speaker will work, and that's the point on this install to take signal via converter with stock head unit, because rarely they come with necessary outputs. Sure there is some quality loss but you have to be real super into music to notice it

Wanted to replace the factory sub in my car with a new sub amp set up. If I use the wires going to the factory sun as my input for an LOC would that mean that the sub control on the head unit would still control the sub? If not is it possible to somehow have my head unit still control my new sub. I really don’t want to have to an a knob control.

It would be best to take the remote from ignition key, fuse box, or make a separate switch that you can control from the driver's seat.
