    This is a really good instructional video. It was well worth the nearly hour-long view. Clear camera angles, excellent sound and diction, doesn't skip over important things that he assumes you already know. I am installing two Emco doors for my mother and I studied the enclosed instructions but could barely get my mind around them. This is going to make it a lot easier.

    This is a great video! Thank you so much. After buying the door at Home Depot like you, I was starting to feel like I needed to hire someone to hang it since the provided instructions left me with too many questions. However, upon finding you video, I will attempt the project myself today. Your generosity in taking the time to post this video has no doubt helped many!

    Excellent Video! The demonstrations align with the instructional booklet. Its amazing that he does this without an assistant. I helped my husband with this installation and it took us 2 hours just as he says in the video. If it wasn't for this video aligning with my learning style of reading from a book, and my husbands carpentry skills, our marriage might not have survived this door installation :) 5-Stars! Thank you!

    Great Video - looked at it as a refresher (Did this model about 4 years ago) Appreciate the professionalism in the quality of the work. One thing I recalled that might be helpful - the door sweep - when pinching it - Just use a set of vise grips on each end - pinch it shut - Again: Thanks!

    I never comment on the Internet, but I felt I had to take a few moments to let you know that your video was extremely beneficial. I read all of the instructions and watched your video (a couple of times). I wanted to be very prepared before I installed the Emco 400 Storm Door this morning. The instructions were much easier to understand in conjunction with your video. I ran into my own issues with the door because my opening is 36 5/8" x 82 1/4". The door I purchased was a 36" x 80". I had to come up with some creative shimming to make the door look good and fit. But, your video made installing the door very easy. Thank you for taking the time to post the video.

    Can't thank you enough for taking the time to bring this installation video to us. Seems like I misread a part or two, but your effort brought me back to that palm to the forehead dah moment. I have to note that the sticker plate may have to be redrilled to match up for proper closer regardless of the predrilled holes on the frame. And yes, I did check the level on everything. I think l had to go about 1/4 inch higher. I think that drill templet may for the handle/lock system needs some tweaking maybe. Side note: I was told that the 300 series has been discontinued. The sales associate at Home Depot wasn't sure if it was just a stop to upgrade or what. Personally, I think the 400 series a better choice. Made Wifee happy! Thanks Mate.

    This is a good video for its time period but some of the installation details have changed with the 2022 version of this door. Glad to say that the included instructions were excellently done and the the math sizing was dead on if you had to reframe your door opening in. However, the striker plate has to be shimmed about 1/8-" 1/4" if your opening is 36-1/4". I experimented using a few washers. This would be done when fitting the door handle. Note that if you are replacing a '36 inch door' in an older house, as I did, my old '36 door measured 36". This 36" door measures 35-1/2". My door opening was 37-1/2". HD had some 1x1x4' hardwood that was stronger and easier than layering lathing strips. That bought my opening dimension to 36-1/4, 1/8" within fitment specs. Hope this makes this job a little easier for the next person. One last thing if you need help, the 'HELP' contact number is over seas and they have no experience with the product, they just read off of a sheet. Find a corporate phone number in the states.

    Very helpful video, not as easy for me to install mine. I had the 36in wide door bit a manufactured home and a little wider than 36in so had to get 1/2 inch shims for the door closing side. Your issue door may be to big my issue door a hair small. After install I can fit almost my whole had under the door after dropping the bottom piece as far down as possible. Do you know if a larger bottom piece is available? Will check with EMCO and HD to see if an extension or larger bottom piece available. Thanks again for the video!

    When you’re attaching the hinge rail to the door, do you have an overhang on both ends? It says you should have 3/16” at the top, but mine has it on both ends...

  • @mrobvious1100
    @mrobvious11002 жыл бұрын

    Question can I just take the hinge track and set it up against the side of the door jam and double check if the door will fit? I figure the door can't be longer than the actual track so if the track will fit with a little room to spare at the bottom then I can go ahead screw the holes and actually mount it to the door.

  • @mrobvious1100
    @mrobvious11002 жыл бұрын

    Very good video, just one thing did I miss where the gentleman put a level against the hinge side jam to make sure it was square and plum? so the door swings true, and I imagine that bottom sweep is going to wear pretty fast against the concrete and you're gonna have a little difficulty with a welcome mat, which it looks like there was 1 there before..

    Nice, nice, nice job! So thorough and detailed. As a DIY'er a lot of this would be much more difficult for me (for instance, I'm short so I'm up and down a ladder where you can just stand in place). I'm sure - for that reason at least - it would take me much longer to do on my own. I have a question for you, please. I want to install a wood screen door off my kitchen which was recently renovated. The main door had to be a special order because it is 77.5" high, rather than 80" - because the top sill was as high as it could go (considering the ceiling/roof) in this 1903 addition. Anyway, I don't want to special order a storm door because of the expense (as you noted). Can I safely cut a premade 80" door if I take some from the top and some from the bottom so it appears even?

  • @Buckwsr

    @Buckwsr

    4 жыл бұрын

    A wooden door would certainly be easier to cut than an aluminum one! You would have to evaluate how much you could safely trim off at the top and bottom. Thank you for the note and good luck.

    when your installing a door you should show the full length on each metal strip so you know where it goes

    What enables such a gentle latching at the end of the close phase? I know all about the tension adjustments.. they don't address the last bang-slam that my door undergoes, despite a normal closing speed up till that point. Yours seemed to go thru it nicely...

    I think it's all about the quality of the door closer. Sometimes you can adjust them. Other times you just get lucky, or not....

    Thanks for watching and commenting. My wife raises the chickens....I don't think she gives them names typically. There are probably a couple of roosters out there.....

    On our farm when I was a boy we def named the roosters & some of the egg chickens. One of the roosters was absolutely retarded & would crow at 6pm daily... ;~)

    Hey I’m at the part right before I install the door handle and strike plate etc. I have a gap between my door and the side of the frame on the side of the door handle and i fear it is to much. Maybe half an inch? What should i do about this. I’ve thought about maybe taking off the right side of the frame so i could maybe add wood beneath it? I’m not sure. Do you have any recommendations??

    You've probably already figured it out. There is room for play with the vertical pieces that mount up the side of the door jam. But if the gap is too big, you might need to use a wood strip to build it out a bit. I've done that once or twice....

    Is this considered a left or right swing? Thank you

    I can't remember the exact terminology. But this storm door gives you the option to put the hinged side on either the left or right. Most storm doors are reversible like that.

    Why not leave the track attached to the side of the door then drill the rest of your pilot holes?

    When you went to drill the holes I thought you lined it up with the hole on the side and not with the metal piece. And I messed up my door. What can I do to fix it?

    I don't really follow what you're describing, but if the door is messed up beyond repair, return it to Home Depot and start over with a new one.....

    Did it come with the insect screen? I just bought the same door and it says insect screen on the diagram but I’m not finding a screen in the box.

  • @Buckwsr

    You've probably figured this out by now...but the screen is built-in to the door....as you lower the upper pane of glass, it pulls the screen down at the same time. It is an interesting set-up, and I hope it holds up well in the long haul. Thank you!

    That piece on the bottom of the door he was 'happy to find' is an adjustable sweep and is included with most every storm door I've bought. In this cae, removing it entirely might offer him the clearance he needs and eliminate the scraping sounds made by the rubber sweep dragging over the concrete,
