I just got my gauge. The stock gauge in my 2021 drive 2 Yamaha is exactly the same size , so no drilling. I have a UNO lithium and have the app but it would be nice to have all the information right in front of you. Once again you come up with great ideas. Much appreciated!

Hey man, I found this very helpful. I acquired a China LSV that doesn’t work and I didn’t know what a shunt was actually for. The one in the car appears as if it was installed totally wrong. It had 2 16ga wires to each side along with the main negative. With you video it clearly showed me it was incorrect. Thank You!

Love the video. I've been procrastinating this meter for a year. It's the only one I've found that works on the 72 volt system that seems any good. I need to figure out a column mounted box for this and my F N R switch relocation. I can't believe even the new carts don't put a lever on the column or switch so your not making some weird move to change direction.

I’m currently converting my rxv 48v to lithium. My question is I bought a blue sea fuse block for all the accessories in addition to this shunt. What gets connected to the shunt if all the accessories are connected to the fuse block? Does the main neg, the onboard charger and fuse block neg get connected to p- ? If so will that allow the shunt to get all the needed data? Thank you for any advice and help.

My battery has an app that indicates the % charge, current charging/discharging and voltage. I have also installed a panel meter that is similar to what is in this video with the same shunt. Today the battery went into protect mode when the app showed 50% and the panel meter showed 30%. Not happy about pushing the cart home. I will contact the battery manufacturer Monday morning, but do you have any ideas about this? Seems to be very difficult to know how much charge is in a LifePO4 battery since the voltage curve is so flat and the fact that the panel meter reads about 0.2 volts less than panel meter. Perhaps a better way is for a meter to measure the amps used since last charged to 100%. Coulomb counter? Your thoughts?

Installed the shunt in my 48v lead acid golf cart. Everything wired correctly with single negative from pack to B- and all other wires grounded to pack mounted to P-. Meter shows correct voltage, amperage draw etc. Set 100% at 50.9V after batteries relaxed from charging, set 150ah as total capacity as verified on battery. As soon as I take off, the battery % meter goes blank and meter will not show me % but still shows voltage and amperage draw. ANY IDEAS????

Good morning. I am have an issue installing the Renogy RBM500 Battery Monitor in my 1992 EZGO Marathon 36 Volt Golf Cart. I have a EPOCH 36 Volt, 100 AH Lithium battery. I have followed the installation instructions to a Tee and checked and double checked everything several times. When I hook everything up according to the instructions and press the button to turn on the Epoch battery, it beeps and turns off. I have tried several times, no luck. Then when I disconnect the shunt and hook up the Positive & Negative battery cables as usual direct to the battery the cart runs fine. I'm stumped. Any help is greatly appreciated. I found it almost impossible to place the power cable into either one of the power wire inputs that are part of the green structure in the center, top part of the shunt. Since the amperage is so small, I sized a straightened paper clip and pushed it into the input (with the tightening screw as wide as possible, which isn't saying much) and tightened it down. Then I crimped my 14 gauge wire (I realize the hole needed 20 to 22 awg) to a tiny alligator clip and connected that to the paper clip. It's a much stronger connection with little chance of the wire failing over time, especially when compared to the tiny amount of wire needed to directly connect it. I couldn't even fit a tiny ferrule into the hole.

Hi Ryan, another question for you... I have the BigBattery Falcon Elite kit with this battery meter installed. I know it's not drawing much power, but I don't like that the meter stays on unless I power off my battery. I have the blue 48v to 12v convertor that you often use and a fuse block for accessories so everything turns off with the key. Can I run the power wire for the meter off the convertor so it turns off with the key or will that make it not read the battery % correctly? Not sure if you'll know the answer to that or not, but I figured I'd ask. Thanks!

@@toledojeeper2932 So you would need to take both negatives from the batteries and connect them to the battery side of the shunt. Then you could run the output side of the shunt to the distribution block. Then you could run your main golf cart gound along with the charger and voltage reducer at the block. What ever you do you have to run both of your battery grounds to the battery side of the shunt. On the other side of the shunt you can run your distribution block to hook up all the negatives.

I guess that would depend if the shunt b- is only on the battery and P- is going to the golf cart, charger & accessories. If so then I would say so.

The "Smart meter" comes with the Big Battery 2x Eagle kit. Am I glad that you produced this great video. The instructions were not good, in fact they were non existent, I called Big Battery and they emailed instructions right away, however your show & tell makes it so much easier.

Sorry for being dense today. Im at the 5:00 mark of the video and your explaining how the wires get connected to the shunt. I still dont understand the purpose of the shunt. Is this a safety device? Does this act like a main fuse link? Is it resettable? Does this prevent a electrical fire? How would you check to see if the shunt is working? If all you want to do is install this battery monitor then why cant you install it right to the battery terminals.

I’ve made a dedicated video for the shunt meter but will explain more in that video. The shunt is a device that measures amperage to/from the battery. A regular meter doesn’t work as good as the shunt meter.

I have a 2017 Yamaha cart, I installed the Big Battery Falcon 3X kit. Wanting more information about the batteries I installed this smart meter and shunt. After installing and settling the meter I drove the cart for a test drive. All went well and the percentage of drop seems to be correct. The problem is when I charge the batteries the percentage of charge does not change. The batteries are at 100% 58v but the meter shows 62% until I reset the meter. I double check the voltage connection to the shunt and it’s good. Any ideas or is this normal? By the way the simple meter I got from big battery goes back to 100%.
