I just bought a house with a few of these in the main living areas (not bedrooms) and I love them. My only complaint is that I forget to turn off lights in bedrooms and basement. I seriously recommend any kind of motion detection switch to anyone looking to save money, but mainly just for the convenience of not having to walk back upstairs/downstairs to turn off a simple hallway light. Great video ... hope it inspires some folks to try them out.

Nice video! I know you said you had the CB off, but its always good to test voltage to ground. If CB was still on and the light switch was in ON position, like it was, the meter would have been reading the same voltage making it show 0.00 volts when in reality there is 120v there and you would have got shocked.

Nice video. I should have made one when I put a pair in for my stairs going to the basement. People love it when I open the door to walk down and the light comes on. The same when you walk around to go up the light comes on. I also use these in my walk-in closet.

I've seen these switches around as well, but hadn't considered one until seeing your installation here. I forget and leave the light in the garage on all the time, but also have a cat that sleeps there at night. Wonder if the cats motion would turn the lights on? Thanks for the video, you have me thinking now.

I'm watching this because I did one today & the lights do work w/just a regular single pole switch. However not with this sensor. & I wired it the same way you did w/ the two black wires to the two wires incoming & outgoing one black & one white that together turn the lights on. I also seen in the direction it must be grounded to work & yes I wired the green wire to the bare copper along with the bare silver wire. And still no lights. I'm guessing that since the lights do come on w/the single pole that maybe the copper wire coming thru the jacket is not hooked up somewhere else as this switch requires a ground be connected for it to work.. What do you think?

GURUBREW, I have a separate double switch (one for the light/one for the fan, this is in the bedroom). I would like to place a motion sensored light switch in place of the regular light switch but keep the fan switch separate. Is it possible to do this, if so, what product would you use? Or if not, can you please advise what needs to get done? Thanks much.

The GE model is a 150 degree model and in most cases consumers install this into a bathroom and 150 degree is sufficient for the use. To answer the questions about pets and the motion, it will go off if your pet is either tall enough or if you install the unit where a receptacle would go. The GE one is designed to pick up Passive Infrared and it WILL sense your pets, unless your pet is a rock or a fish.

Anyone have any suggestions as to why the light only goes to "dim"? There are no switches on the photocell or hallway light to change settings.

You can turn the "occupancy sensor" setting to off so that the light won't automatically turn on when someone enters the room. For example, I don't want my bathroom light to turn on if I get up in the middle of the night. In all cases, it will turn off automatically when there is no movement sensed in the room.

Whoever wired the light switch that you're replacing, should have stripped a lot more of the jacket inside the box! The wires should be about 6" 'long & separated out of the jacket to allow flexible freedom for to strip the ends that needs be attached to the switch or receptacle.
