It looks to me like you have at least one supporting wall that is no longer properly supported - due to the huge notches for the tubing. Did the building inspector actually sign off on the work?

@3:30 I’m so glad you said that. A lot of guys don’t understand that it won’t be an accurate reading so close to where you’re pulling from.

Good job on the video. It was a little more helpful than some. For the wire butting, I usually score it lightly (making sure not to totally penetrate the insulation and cut inside wires) in line with the wire with a utility knife only penetrating the last half inch of outside insulation where the wire will be stripped anyways. Then grab a wire and peel insulation back. Or I will score around the wire where i want the butt of the insulation (making sure not to totally penetrate the insulation and cut inside wires). Then bend the wire back and forth at the scored section to finish the cut through the insulation, and slide the insulation off of wires. Hope this helps. Thanks for the video. Keep up the good work!

This video is not meant to be a FULLY comprehensive guide on mini split installation but rather showing many tricks to make an install go smoother and have less chance of failures. We may do a more comprehensive video in the future. I share a lot of little things that I have learned by installing mini splits myself. Hopefully someone can benefit from some of this stuff, be it a homeowner or HVAC guy.

We just became a Diamond dealer. My only complaint is the pricing for single zone wall mount units. I can get Daikin wayyyyyyy cheaper with the 12 year warranty. That’s my only gripe though. Love the svz

Wiggle your holesaw back-and-forth as you go in then the plug won’t fit so tight inside the hole saw. Then with a screwdriver or a punch or a screw drilled into the wood plug and pulled out with pliers works nice.

I use 14ga marine grade fork terminals with heat shrink. Use a good crimper and your heat gun. You’ll have less communication issues if you do it this way. If you’re cleaning the outdoor unit and cleaner/water gets on your terminal strip, capillary attraction will take water down that wire and set up corrosion or continuity. Then it’s communication error time.

That's a fabulous installation, good to see hard working HVAC tech like you! One more thing I might do is putting in a wet swtich like SS610E, might add some value to your customer and save for a major leak one day just in case~~Staying Hydrated, Staying Healthy👍👍

I hope some of those screws for the mounting plate went into studs. A few inches left or right is worth never getting the call that it's hanging by the lineset, kinked, and leaked all the refrigerant out. Also, very nice vacuum demonstration.

Didn’t know that about the flare fitting in the tube cutter. 😅 too bad I don’t live in California cause I’d definitely join your crew.

Man get the spyder hole saw set from lowes. It retracts back so that you can slide off the piece you just cut. Don't know why it isnt standard on all hole saws.

I always give myself a day and a half to two days to install mini split heat pump. I work solo and I do a good job like you. Guys like to brag about getting it done in one day by themselves, or how far they travel for jobs. Don’t call me when it breaks, because I don’t work on anyone else’s m-splits.

Yeah man I finished this one in one day mostly by myself. We did go back to install a surge protector. It’s really not sustainable though to do that all the time. If you have a system that sits right outside the indoor unit and an electrician already installed the disconnect and everything was ready for you then it’s doable. That almost never happens though. Most mini splits we have 2-3 guys and it takes us 4-8 hours and we do a really good job

You’re supposed to take the pilot bit out before fully coring the hole. The pilot bit is just meant to keep the core center. Once you get the core started / traced then you take the bit out before fully coring the hole.

We swage and braze the indoor unit when possible.

Klein has a bit set with a rachet. Perfect for all service valves

If you can't find them in your area then you can search DSH-14-16V online and it should pop right up

Flat head helps to remove plug. Spyder hole saws are the tits. they eject pretty easy

We don’t even carry red. I think just the tip was red. I did a double take while editing the video as well

But what about the studs that you trashed? Why aren't you using a hole saw? Why are you using a hose inside of the wall? Why are you doing this job? Please don't ever do this again!

Homeowner told us it was non load bearing and we were good to do as we did. And we ran PVC in the wall as you can clearly see in the video. The hose in the wall is only the initial connection from the mini split and the homeowner is going to leave an access for that and the refrigerant joints. All this was explained in the video

I could say stop asking for validation and tips in your youtube video aimed at professionals, but this took from 9 till 6 with two/three people? If this is normal in the states I might have to immigrate. I frequently install two of these splits a day, alone. And we braze our indoor connections here. Gotta say you do have some high end tools for a year old business though. High costs for tools, high costs for labour, long installs... no wonder you can't pay yourself much. And nice job on those studs buddy. They're just for show most of the time anyway. Ahum. You do seem to know the correct procedures. Credit where credit is due. Breaking the vaccuum (twice) on a mini split is overkill. Pro tip for (pro) hvac collegue: work on your speed and efficiency. And don't leave your high end tools behind a window in your truck for the world to see.
