What would be some good bov for the 88 turbo coupe. From what I have heard only a twin piston will work and I just want to spend my money on something good the first time. Thank you guys

Adding a manual boost controller, do i have to run premium fuel? Or should i, rather. 88 turbo coupe, front mount stinger, 3" stinger down pipe, 3" hiflo cat, 3" Y to dual 2½.

Probably should just keep factory boost levels until plumbing in a front mounted intercooler. I had a 1984 Turbocoupe and added a Ford Motorsport intercooler kit and a boost control valve when the car was fairly new. Very disappointed as all it did was cause an engine miss when I cranked up the boost beyond stock. Fortunately today we have much better diagnostic tools to sort out problems often encountered when making modifications.

So on a 87/88, would this eliminate that ford reduced the boost for 2-5th gears? Stock was 15 1st gear. 10psi 2-5th gears.

if its a turbo car then yes it will allow you to get MORE boost!

So I'm about to get an 87 turbo coupe and what is the safest I could go as far as psi goes?

Jake Banton yes sir stock turbo and no intercooler.

I have an original Ford Motorsport intercooler conversion kit for 83-86 Thunderbird Turbo Coupes in my shop :) The intercooler is small. But the kit is a bolt on.

@@5.0world3 No. It's a kit that was sold by Ford to upgrade the 83 to 86 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe from non intercooled to intercooled. I think they had a tech or something that would turn the boost up from stock 9 PSI to about 12 PSI. I'm guessing that upgrade kit and 3 PSI boost increase got you from 140 HP up to 175 to 180 with a solid bump in torque

My 86 turbo coupe came with a intercooler from factory. Anybody here know how common that is for the 86?? I was under the impression they didn't come intercooled until 87.

Yeah you can even boost 20 out of it and your not gonna feel difference to much hot air going in, you need a FMIC kit it a must. I say this cuz i was a proud owner of a 1988 Turbo coupe. Go with a Ric Gillis boost valve the work really well and have almost no boost lag and will spool your turbo bit more faster and it a very reliable Boost controller simple and cheap like 55 bucks. Also in they sell cheap knife edge gutted ported upper and lower intakes for like 330 or so fairly cheap makes good power. I went with this intake kit from stingers. here go to www.stinger-performance.com/stockparts.html or to gnari.com/ most of the gnari stuff is bolt on and the headers are cast iron and ported bigger for better air flow than stock ones, and its got smog connector so you can pass smog with this kit, with no problem and im in california smog here is pain in the ass. I use his whole kit except his turbo i went with a Borgwarner S256 turbo. Check my videos! To bad i don't own it any more it got total by a drunk driver.

Yeah you can 100% feel a difference in 14-25 psi lol. The car is way faster. But yes it does need a FMIC
