How To Install a Hanging Light Fixture | Dining Room Light Fixture

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I will show you how to install a hanging light fixture. In this case I installed a dining room light fixture to upgrade from our original builder's grade light fixture. Replacing light fixtures can change the whole mood and feel of a room and make it feel more like home when it fits your style.

    So got mine installed and one of the light sockets doesn't work. Do you think it's a product malfunction? I completed some troubleshooting making sure it's not the bulb. Thoughts?

  • @HowToHomeDIY

    @HowToHomeDIY

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@thomasford4716 If the other sockets work then there is something wrong with that one socket and not the wiring. If its not the bulb, the next place I would check is the bottom of the socket and make sure its not bent down too far so that the bulb can make contact with it. If that isn't an issue I would want to check with a multimeter if there is power getting to it to begin with. Sometimes they are just bad and have to exchange for a new one as much as that would stink to do having it installed already.

    Wow! Thank you! You took the mystery out of hanging the box farm house light fixture before I buy one and install it myself. Having hung thousands of light fixtures in my IBEW career this was pretty good. I know you didn't want to go deep into the weeds on this but you missed one point. Those fixture studs are 90% of the time to long and the acorn nuts don't tighten it up all the way as the studs hit the drywall ring. Not sure where you are at but here in Chicagoland everything is pipe metal box and yes other colors of wire than red/black/white. I would always put fixture strap studs through the canopy put acorn nuts on and hold it up at eye level with strap even with top edge of canopy. Then cut the extra threads on the backside of strap, leaving a little extra. I always hated those type of fixtures, pain to get level.

    Hi I have a question my chandelier that I got has three wires on it but when I took the old one out the ceiling only has two and they are both the same. The wires on the new chandelier are green black and white which two do I connect?

    Is there any issues with the ground wire being bare ? I installed one but felt the bare ground wire should come with a sleeve maybe with a green stripe on it . I wrapped it with electrical tape.

    What kind of bulbs are these and can led bulbs be used with this type of fixture that’s on a dimmer switch? My bulbs look similar to this but recently went out. For some reason the lights will go out when I slide the dimmer switch all the way up to brightest setting.

    I just started my electricians class and my mom wants me to replace our light fixtures already lol. When you wire nut, do you need to twist the wires before you wire nut it or is it optional? Edit: oh and where can i find those voltage testers you used in the beginning of the video

    I had a small power brick in my ceiling and accidentally ripped a piece of plaster off trying to get everything out. Also broke my replacement light 😭. I just removed all of the light fixtures now and put the bases back to cover the wires. It won’t start a fire or anything right?

    I have an antique fixture that has no ground wire, so I want to add one. I know that one end goes to the green screw, but where does the other end go?
