How to install a Combi boiler conversion - Worcester 8000 - Vented boiler to mains pressured system

In this video I explain the process I use when converting a regular vented low pressured central heating system to a mains pressured combi boiler set up.
We will be installing the Worcester 8000 Combi boiler and showing you some of its features.

Thanks this is a really nicely done video. Small question is it better to do the flush or power flush before installing the new boiler or after. Just wondering if it is done before (using the old boiler to heat it up), the sediments in the pipes and radiators won’t go through the new boiler

Great informative video. Having my two bedroom flat system boiler changed to a combi by the housing association and wanted to get an idea of what will happen on the day. Also what to look out for so no corners are cut. Thanks!

@@loving-plumbing corners were cut! There were two bottles in the new boiler box. Cleaner and inhibitor Fernox red and blue cap. They were not used. Can they flush the boiler without using them...the rads were drained of water via a hose stuck on water pipe in hallway...I was keeping an eye on the bottles (not watching them constantly, as I don't like that personally in my job) but at the end before they left I felt the bottles and felt they were full , caps still sealed. I think coz of the time needed to flush/clean they didn't do it. The guy working on the boiler did use a spray bottle which I found out is an inhibitor, but boiler was not run for hour whatsoever, maybe just 20mins tops. They felt the rads warm up and bleeded them that's it. You mentioned it was imperative to do it in your vid. I didn't like the fact they didn't do it. I didn't call them out straight away as again I didn't want to tell them how to do their job. So I waited for the inspection next day to mention to the inspector. I told them that the workers didn't use the bottles, they agreed that it should have been done. The paperwork was even filled in ticking the boxes stating that they had used the cleaner and inhibitor. Also they were cheeky enough to stick the stickers from the bottle onto the side of the boiler but without inputting the date used. Why would they do that? Purely to save time? So the boiler breaks down so they are called out more often? I am a housing association tenant. Or is it not imperative? Anyway, the inspector arranged for an operative to attend the next day, I wasn't in but my misus stated all they did was come in and pour a bottle of inhibitor into the Fernox TF1 Sigma Filter. That was it. No cleaner used, no running on full power for 1/2 hour etc. Boiler working fine. But I'm guessing old sludge remains inside rads/pipes. Its probably just going to damage boiler sooner rather than later. Any thoughts?

Great vid. Obviously British Gas looked after the boiler and system. Hmmm, I wonder how much they quoted compared to yours. I'm guessing 5-6k!! Robbing b&stards.

Hey great video ! I’ve got a question for you … I have a small house that is having its plumbing converted to a combi system and I was wondering would it need motorised valves ?

Only if you are having more then one heating zone. But usually probably not if converting.

great vid, if you were called to install a boiler but the customer was not willing to agree to power flush the system before hand , would you agree to the install ? even tho by default this would make the warranty invalid (I assume) and would you make note of this on the commisioning documents

How can i found out the flow rate my house has, also is there a way this flow rate to the property can be increased by the supplier?

Hi. The best way is to get a large measuring jug and run the tap for a minute. This will tell you how many liters per minute you have. Make sure it's from the cold main. I like to use a big tilers bucket. Alternatively you can buy a weir gauge which is a plumbers measuring device. Flow rate generally can't be increased by the supplier but you can upgrade your incoming main size. The minimum you want is a 25mm blue MDPE pipe. Otherwise pumps and accumulation may be necessary
