How to Input Triplets, Tuplets, and Polyrhythms in FamiTracker

In this tutorial, I will teach you how to input triplets, tuplets, and polyrhythms in FamiTracker. Making tuplets in FamiTracker may seem daunting at first, but they are not so different from inputting normal rhythms. In fact, there are many ways of inputting tuplets, and this video will touch on each of them. After all, this tutorial is designed to take you from triplet beginner to tuplet master!
This tutorial is in three parts. In the first section, I show how to input triplets in a blank FamiTracker module. In the second section, I explain how inputting triplets works. In the final section, I explain a method to input any type of tuplet in FamiTracker.
Learning to input tuplets in FamiTracker is well worth learning.
This will allow you to program any type of music into FamiTracker-from simple tunes to experimental modern music.
Let's get tracking!

    I first got into tracking back in 95 with FT2 (have since stopped but still love it) and I only learned today that the speed denoted the number of ticks per line!

    Nice! You should dive back in if you get the chance. I believe there's some complicated Tempo/Engine speed jazz that plays into the tick equation. At Tempo 150 ticks and speed should be 1:1 equivalent (tested with NSF export/import). :D

    I am not sure if there's an official development timeline. There are, however, a lot of FamiTracker hacks that tend to augment the program well enough!

    Why not also change the number of rows?

  • @MatthewIvic

    @MatthewIvic

    4 ай бұрын

    You can, but that's a large scale change. In general, if you're only going to use a few tuplets, the delay function will serve the module's structure better. That is, it'll be easier to view and edit. If you change the row structure to accommodate one or two tuplets, I can imagine that'll get pretty messy...and you might have to use the delay function to input simple subdivisions of the beat which is kind of backwards at that point. Hope that makes sense.
