Steps:
- Start by clicking the apple logo button at the top left of your Mac and then open system preferences.
- From System preferences, click on ‘displays’.
- Your display resolution should be set to default, which uses the highest resolution.. But if you lower the resolution it will increase the text size.
- Change the option here to ‘scaled’. You can now click on the different options here to preview what they are like. Note that scaling the resolution here will likely affect the image quality too, unfortunately.
- Another way of increasing the size of things you see on the screen is to use the keyboard shortcuts for zooming in and out!
- To zoom in, press ‘Command’ & ‘+’ at the same time.. This will zoom in whatever is on the screen. This works whether you are on the desktop, in file explorer or using a web browser or other app! To zoom out again you can press ‘command’ and ‘-’ at the same time on your keyboard.
- If you would prefer to not use keyboard shortcuts, open the view menu from the top toolbar, and then you should see buttons for zooming in and out!

unfortunately, changing the font size no longer works with the latest operating system big sur. do you know of a way to do this? it would be extremely helpful.
This helped so much. I wear glasses and the screen seemed so small, that it was straining my eyes. Very helpful video!
Apple icon in upper left of your screen. System Preferences. Displays. Resolution - Click on Scaled, then choose among the options offered.

This is so ridiculous. 8 yrs ago finder allowed you to increase the size / font of the desktop icons/folders, now you have to compromise the image quality to do so. What the hell...

This doesn’t work with a Mac mini M1….those four text size options are not present. Does anyone have any other options? Dropping the resolution on my 3440 X 1440 34" ultra-wide looks awful and that's the whole point of a widescreen...run it at max resolution. As a recent Windows convert, I'm shocked Apple engineers haven't made a setting to increase text and window size on windows like your browser shortcuts on the browser bar, menus and all mac system windows. The command + command works great for the body of a web browsers content..can't they port that tech to overall the overall system? Has to be a lot of people these days with a mac mini with this same complaint...
