Calibration zone on the poppers is only the top circle area of the steel. So if a shot lands on the vertical part of the steel below the circle and the plate does not fall, the shot will be counted as a mike if no follow up action is taken to shoot the popper until it falls.

This is a great presentation for a new IPSC shooter like myself. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I have a question on the "shoot clockwise" principle for RH shooter, does this still apply to cross-eye dominate RH shooter? I shoot right handed but is left eye dominant, thanks.

Hi Johnny, thanks for your positive feedback. Appreciated! The shoot clockwise for RH-shooters is NOT written in stone. Based on my experience it is also applicable for left eye dominant RH-shooters, BUT: try both ways to see what feels best/most natural to YOU. On the otherhand you will learn, as you grow into IPSC, that there will be situations during training or matches, in which the stageplan will work better if you shoot target arrays in a counterclockwise order. In general we will shoot maximum in our natural flow, but we also need to train otherwise to fill our "bank of information", experience and confidence to avoid surprises. Hope this helps. DVC

Please could you prioritize the core principles for me - e.g. 2 full targets with the popper in the centre. is #1 Near to far does not apply #2 bottom up does #3Clockwise (R/Handed) applies #4Horizontal line applies. Do I execute sequentially like 2,3&4 Always, or 2,4 &3? etc..

Thanks for your appreciation and feedback! Nice to hear. The core principles are a critical part of YOUR overall "library of knowledge, skills and techniques", which grows with time and experience, and you use, based on YOUR individual skill and comfort level, to plan YOUR stage. In regards to your specific question (and without further context (distance, position entry/next position, etc.)): 2 full targets and a popper in the middle = popper first, than top left target and than top right. This is not written in stone, considering the specific stage. Have you already seen "Shooting flow 2 and 3"? Hope this helps.

Depends if you're starting from a static position facing these targets (then first left/then right) or coming into it to stop/proceed further (then the target I see first). Upcoming Sunday I will release "Improve your shooting flow 2".

In the array at the 17:00 minute mark, how would you go about shooting it if there was a fourth target below the center one...so the targets were at 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 and 9?

Hi Steven, I shoot the target array as presented by you as follows: start with 6, then 9, then 12 and then 3. I start below, follow clockwise, so my eyes can transition unobstructed to the next target.

I often encounter targets like yours #2 (time 16:35) but reversed: two above, one below - and the distances are slightly bigger (around a meter between targets). How do you approach it? On the one hand are the principals you've introduced, but on the other hand is the transition distance - (you could go low-left-right for overall better transitions or you could go left-bottom-right for the short transition). How to understand which is better? (the short transition or following the principle). Thank you very much!

Hi there, thanks for your question. When engaging the array as described in your question, I adhere to the same principles, as explained in the video. I start on the lower target, move to the upper left target and then the upper right target using the "90/10 transition rule", i.e. increasing the speed of the transitions to faster cover the slightly larger distance of 1m. To know what works best FOR YOU, I recommend to set the arrays up on the range and test them, to inlude time, points and HF ;-)

@@ipsc-guru thanks! I always try to test - but then I encounter a slightly different configuration in a match and the "overthinking" process starts again :) Therefore I try to establish some rule of thumb for myself and your channel certainly helps a lot!

Having a good baseline is necessary, but in our sport we need to be flexible and adapt on the spot. We constantly need to make and add puzzle pieces to our portfolio to draw from during matches. Thinking must be done during walk through until stage plan is ready. As soon as you're online with the "Are you ready" command we need to shut down our conscious thoughts and go on automatic :-) One of the reasons I like IPSC/USPSA so much. It's not only physical, but also a big mental game! Thanks for your appreciation!

I am with you… But hitting the popper everywhere and it will fall down? Hell no. That’s not something I would advocate

Hi KommBat, thanks for your comment. I fully agree, as with any target, during your walkthrough, you should really focus on the specific point of aim in the center of a steel target, and not just spray & pray anywhere. DVC
