How to improve your FOREHAND FLICK (with Ferenc Horvath)

Спорт

In this video, top coach Ferenc Horvath gives a few tips to help you improve your forehand flick.
The forehand flick is an advanced attacking stroke, typically used to return a short backspin serve. The movement, timing and stroke execution all have to be quite precise to be able to flick consistently.
But if you can master this shot, you will have another attacking option to put your opponent under pressure.
Ferenc gives a great explanation on how to play a forehand flick. There is lots of footage of Ferenc demonstrating the shot. And at the end of the video there is footage of me attempting to return Ferenc's forehand flick.

Thanks a lot! I will try this today. My backhand flick is okay, but I have to improve my forehand flick. Nice tipps. Thank you Ferenc and Tom. Stay healthy.

Earlier this morning I was working on my forehand flick and my loop (based on one of your 2017 videos). Made a point is listening to the sound at contact - quiet versus a loud block. Have come to love the Joola rubber sheet I got from you - thanks again. Played in 1st USATT sanctioned tournament this past weekend. Has been two years since I played in a sanctioned tournament. I'm still rusty but did ok at the tournament (ok, I did not win but I did play well).

Yes, it's a tough shot this one. There is a small margin of error. The key for me is making contact when the ball is at the peak of the bounce. This gives you the best chance of making the shot.

Thank you so much for Excellent Videos, especially for a beginner like me. Is it possible to make a video on 'How to gauge, how much spin an incoming ball has on it?'. Does this split-second-judgement come only with practice, and has to be perfected over a long period of time?

At first, it is definitely challenging to read the amount of spin and react accordingly. Your eyes see the spin, but the brain processing is too slow, and your body finds it hard to adjust. But over time, you will find it easier. It will become instinctive. You will see that it is heavy or light spin and your muscle memory will take over and play the correct stroke. So you need lots of practice and patience but you will find it easier over time. Here's a video which may help. I made this a couple of years ago with Mark Mitchell and he gives a few tips about reading spin: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hI5h1bWIfbafqKg.html
