I'm trying SO hard to get into this practice this year! I feel like it's a great additional tool to the creative kit

It absolutely is, but why are these kind of habits so hard to start?! Good luck with it!

Another very good video and topic. I'm not journaling because, well… I don't like writing. But I use this kind of "free you mind" technique by maintaining my digital agenda up to date and many other notes tools.

Thanks Gabriel, much appreciated as ever. That's great that you can do something similar that works for you - maintaining my digital agenda is something i need to pay more attention to (and would probably take some of my anxiety away too!!)

New to the channel, but very much enjoyed this - thanks Rick. I'm a Hobyyist photographer and have just started the 'Mind Journal' process which will hopefully lead to a daily journalling habit and with all of the benefits you outline here. Subscribed to both the channel and newsletter.

Love this video Rick! I actually wake up in the middle of every night because of anxiety… and every time I reach to my phone, I just know that that night will be VERY long. I’m going to try your technique! Thanks!

There something special about the very act of writing stuff down v typing stuff down, it’s most likely due to how we learned growing up and helps not only organise thoughts but also life in general ! Plus the act of adding a physical tick after something is in itself rewarding ! I also find that going back over old notes helps in finding new views on topics and also our mindset at the time of writing ! Great vid Pal 👏

Absolutely!! I'm a sucker for a physical tick - something so satisfying about such a small act. In all my years of doing this, I've only recently started going back over older entires - it's great to see how far you have come over time. Thanks mate 👍🏻

Very interesting vid Rick. Many many parallels with my life!! I haven’t used journaling but will give it a go as mindfulness and general health and fitness is ultra important to me now.

Obviously I support every point you make in this video 1000% :) ! I think for me there's a crossover between 'anxiety' and creativity. I often wake up first thing in the morning with an onslaught of ideas, things I have to do, and random thoughts. I'll grab my notebook first thing and attempt to write them all down. And of course it's a visual mess, but it makes sense to me, and most importantly it clears my mind, as you mentioned, Rick. There are so many different ways to attempt journaling and it's always fun to hear about others' experiences of it!

I do similar (but more recently it's at 4am!). I need to get back to writing them down like I used to instead of my mind running away with itself.... I don't find it as harmful as i did when I woke up panicking, but i think the same techniques could at least allow me to get back to sleep. I'll definitely try this! Thanks buddy 👍🏻

Several months ago I came across a book, The Artist's Way, by Julia Cameron which offers ideas and exercises for unlocking your creativity. One of the very first exercises is journaling. She recommends 3 pages every morning and that you don't read any of the entries until after 90 days or for some people, not at all. Off and on over the years I've tried keeping a journal/diary and never seemed to continue for more than a couple of weeks....until now. Today will be my 98th entry. Some days it's 3 pages some days it's a half of a page; I've missed a couple of days for unavoidable reasons but have been pleased that I have been journaling as consistently as I have. My internal clock is not on a normal schedule so I journal 1.2 to1 page in the morning and then before bed will be 1/2 to 3 pages. It has given me an outlet for the things that I've worried about and has allowed me to record events of the day. I like the idea of adding items of gratitude and will start that tonight. Thank you for that. I look forward to watching more of your videos.

I've heard a few people speak of that book now, it sounds like i might need to get myself a copy. Well done for making journaling a bit more of a habit anyway. I've always tried to make it daily (and perfectionist tendencies led to that), but now I have a rule where if I have a day when i don't write then that's fine, but never 2 in a row. Even if I don't write much, I know that sticking to this will have a big impact over time. Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate it. Good luck with the gratitude!

another great video! my first thought was that journaling is very similar to 'morning pages' sugested by Julia Cameron in her book 'The artist's way', but from another comment I saw that you haven't read it yet :)
