Thanks for this video and sharing your experience. I have a question though, and it might be a dumb one. How does VAT work when it comes to importing and selling the actual product to a customer? Does this mean the price will be influenced by double VAT... Im a bit lost on this point and cant find anything online that explains in clearly.

Hi there. If you'd like to pre-clear your shipment then your freight forwarding company will be able to upload the invoices and other docs ahead of time so that your goods can move through customs quicker

One our our students has a successful business importing plants from all over and they use the freight forwarder company called Fatton Arivia

Hi I was reading online from SARS saying that importing anything from overseas to SA (wether souther African or foreigner) one need to be registered as importer. What I don’t understand is as if I want to import, say an iPhone for my personal use, should I register myself as an importer and have a registered broker? Is that what I understood?

@@nkatekomavundza3340 If this is one of your first it could be that the value of the import puts it into the category that needs an import license. To get one you can go down to a SARS branch near you that does import license applications (not all of them do so find out first) and you can apply yourself for free. Alternatively there's a lot of companies online that will do this for you for about R2k
