The phrase Ali said that helped me (in a different video) was "frame dominant". Although I'm overweight/fat/soft I realised looking at photos that my frame is actually more obvious than my flesh. In spite of being average height I have a long line. Shoulders are prominent and wide. So I decided i was probably a soft natural and not a romantic type. When I look back at photos of myself when I was very slim, I still look like a soft natural. I think we're so used to thinking about how fat/thin we are that we find it hard to see bone structure which seems to pretty much stay the same.

The distribution of fat is also telling. Unfortunately even midsize plusize examples Ally could use are pidgenholded to a very specific hourglass or pear shape. Soft natural as a top heavy, shoulder dominant is never seen as plus size..the only example i can think of iz Rene Zellweger in Bridget Jones. That's hardly midsize even, but great material for analysis cause you can track down the change

Everyone is sharing their tips, so I'll give you some of mine as well :) (Side note - i'm male into Kibbe since I was 15 and this year im turning 22, so I have some experience. First I classified myself as soft classic, then as soft natural, theatrical romantic and finally I've landed on soft dramatic. I'll explain it to you in a bit). So first thing you want to do - take a picture of your body in an underwear only on your chest level (more precisely - your sternum level. If you have long hair - grab them in a ponytail - you want to see your actual face shape and head size, hair usually distort your head size). The camera should be placed quite far away from your standpoint, bc you want to see the general idea of your body (and not all the wierd imprefections). Have a pictures of you standing straight and then in a few more "relaxed" poses (slouch even a bit). Finally, I advise you to record yourself changing poses, moving your limbs, sitting down and standing up - you get the idea. Try to take a good quality pictures (good lighting), bc otherwise you won't be able to assign yourself to any type. That was my main problem, bc in my head I had a different idea of my bone structure - i though I had short vertical line, since I heard I have large head... couldn't be further from the truth. That's why you need a good pictures! Okay, now you have collected all the data you'll need for further examination. For now, I recommend you focusing on your bone structure, as this element is what for 99% of the time makes a kibbe type, the flesh is more important for deciding wheter you're soft, flamboyant or in between. Here I'll list you things I recommend you to focus on: 1) Head - is it small or large? Narrow (as wide as neck - like Linda Evangelista) or wide? Is your neck long or short? 2) How long are your limbs? How far can you reach your hands? How long are your steps? Do you need a lot of space to raise your hand comfortably? (for these questions - watch the video of yourself moving) 3) When your hand is close to your body - is it the size of your head or larger? Mayby smaller? do you have long fingers? Can you notice width (like in Jennifer Aniston's hands) or it's not really noticable (Keira Knightly)? 4) are your shoulders wide or narrow? Do the muscles from your neck flow seamlessly into your shoulder or can you see your clavicles? If you press the side of your shoulder (where the deltoid muscle is located), can you feel a lot of muscle/fat tissue? Tip: I find this question to be the hardest to answer, but I came up with a nice example - search Joe Manganiello on the beach. He's really muscular and you could say he has wide shoulder. Yeah, he has... but take a look at Brad Pitt on the beach. He has never been as muscular as Joe, but his shoulders look really wide, bc he has wide shoulders, while Joe has dramatic shoulders. I hope it clears the difference a bit. 5) Can you see a straight line in your hips (Sophia Loren, Sofia Vergara) or is it a perfect rounded shape (Beyonce)? 6) Are the shadows of your cheekbones really noticable and cover quite a lot of your lower face or not really? Which quality is more predominant - height of the cheekbones (Victoria Beckham), it's width (Selena Gomez), more compact (Rachel McAdams) or quite low and rounded (Beyonce)? 7) Do you have a long nose (length of the nose - the distance between your eyebrows and your mouth)? Is it narrow? Is the tip of your nose pointy and adds to the overall length? Tip: your nostrils aren't that important. The bridge of your nose and the tip are the most important. Then the bridge becomes the tip, in Romantics it blends smoothly and consists only of rounded shapes (Kate Winslet, Beyonce), In Dramatics you can see many shapes and shadows (sofia Vergara), Naturals have a similar noses to Romantics, but they're longer and not so perfectly rounded - you can see quite a lot of shadows creating "kind of" a rounded nose. 8) Jawline - is your jaw creating strong shadows when you're moving (little fat) or is it quite soft? Is your chin pointed and quite prominent (sharp, squarish or rounded)? When you smile, do you see mailny muscles of fat tissue moving? Even if you have narrow jaw, is that narrowness really significant in your overall appearance? Mayby there's something that is more striking about it. (I have quite a narrow jaw, however sharpness is WAY more noticable.) Keep in mind, that long+narrow=dramatic, long+wide (bone-wise)=natural, Short+narrow/width (flesh-wise)=romantics, blended=classic, mixture=gamine and this rule is the most important in my opinion. It's a very long comment focusing mainly on your bones, but I hope that these questions will help you with deciding about your kibbe type :) Keep in mind, you can compare to other veryfied celebs and see, how close is your body is. (I'm male and I was quite surprised when I discovered I have quite a similar, but less muscular body to Shawn Mendes, who's probably a dramatic, and Benedict Cumberbatch). If you don't stand out among those celebrities, it probably means you're that body type, at least when it comes to body. Concering the flesh, its a secondary characteristic in my opinion. Thin romantic can reveal a bone structure similar to theatrical romantic, fleshy flamboyant natural might appear like a natural or soft natural, as flesh in general shortens your vertical line (google Britney Spears, Pryanka Chopra, Christian Bale or Leonardo Dicaprio). Still conused? Try head to toes black outfit (since most people own black clothes)/ankle length or longer dress (long vertical line) vs t-shirt+shorts/mini-dress (short vertical line). In general, dramatics and naturals in short vertical line will look as if the clothes were too small, meanwhile gamines and romantics in long vertical line will look as if the dress was too long/heavy looking. Classics, as I've noticed, look their best in knee-length dresses or pants. (this test is ofc an oversimplification and no-one is going to wear shorts in winter, it's just to give you a clue). Stay healthy, cheers everyone!

Tying to figure out bone vs flesh width whether you're a D fleshy or B broad, I've found ankles/wrists helpful as well. If you have more thick wrists and ankles, wearing an ankle bracelet or a thin delicate bracelet would look silly, or make your arms/legs look larger. Like @wildflower mentioned, chunky shoes would look odd on a Romantic but right on a Natural or Dramatic. Marilyn Monroe, Dreww Barrymore and other Romantics, even if fleshier in the arms and legs, still look at home in these more dainty attention/fitted ankles and wrists. This helped me figure out I was Soft Natural vs Romantic despite being short and having some soft features in the face and flesh. I think Gamines and Romantics tend to look great with fitting, detail and attention to the wrists, ankles and neck. Where as Dramatics and Naturals look better with more bold draping at the neck or low neckline, and half sleeve/quarter sleeve instead of cuffs.

Alyona, I confuse myself and others. No one can decide whether I am a Soft Gamine or a Romantic. I don't have the extreme roundness and I am not really juxtaposed - yet neither styles feel right. What do you recommend people like me do? I am 23 and 4'11'' and going to be 24 so I don't think it's an issue of me being too young. All other body types are practically ruled out. I've had Style Thoughts by Rita categorize me as a Romantic, the r/kibbe subreddit is always between SG and R, and Brittney Style Theory thought I was a SG.

recently fell underweight after struggling with depression and chronic health issues and it’s made trying to find my type really difficult. i am 5’5 but look vertical and i can’t tell if i just look like that right now because i’m so thin or if i was always that way. i also struggle with some of the language regarding my suspected type (FN…though nothing about me is large lol, i don’t get why that word is used so often, along with masculine, it’s made me self conscious in ways i never was). i might even be classic of some sort but it’s really difficult to tell. my face has some yin elements (eyes and lips, but i don’t have prominent cheekbones and have lost fleshiness due to weight, so the lack of that isn’t something i want to highlight) but i don’t feel my face looks like any of the verified celebrities LOL. also the recs for FNs assume you are actually tall but i just lack fleshy curve so it doesn’t really feel like they fit me very well. it honestly feels like we are supposed to drown out our frame with “full and roomy oversized clothing” (quoting kibbe’s book) and i don’t see how saying that is someone’s best most flattering look is going to make anyone feel good.

Thank you for this video. It's rather hard to determine one's body type when you have some extra flesh. In the test I end up being romantic (sometimes theatrical), but I look my worst in all that romantic stuff, ridiculous, I'd say. like I'm a horse in ruffles or I stole my mamma's dress. So I have a question. For all those confused. Can one determine their body type counting out the things that obviously don't flatter them? (Like I look silly in long dresses&romantic outfits) And can one determine their body type from the hairstyles that they look good with? (Can I cut down possible body types if I look my best with really short hair and bangs and long hair makes me look old and dull?) Also, it would be nice if anyone could make a video on how to dress over- and underweight Kibbe types. I suppose I am some sort of a gamine (short and boxy), but I fear that all that geometry would make me look even more square-ish. All that extra flesh or lack of it should have it's impact, I suppose?

Boy, the American education system has really done me a disservice by not using the metric system. One thing people use and I'm like, "I have no idea what that means." Okay, having looked it up in my language you're about 5'6". But yes, I agree with you. One silly thing isn't going to keep you out of a category. It's everything together. On the opposite end I'm like 5'2" and I have the largest hands in the world. Like I measured them once and looked up like corresponding sizes and average hand lengths to average female heights. I should be like 6'1". LOL. Maybe we can swap. But I'm a soft natural. I'm a little short but everything else fits so, one "little" thing isn't going to change your overall type. Now if everything was tiny and you were shorter and you didn't have broad shoulders and you had other things, then start looking at something else.

Hi, Aly! It seems like dramatics, romantics, naturals, and classics can all style themselves sexy, but hot/sexy seems off limits for the gamine family. We can’t wear bold/dangerous sexy like a dramatic, we can’t wear smokey eyed effortless sexy like a natural, feminine sexy for a romantic, or graceful catlike sexy for a classic. How do women in the gamine family, with our geometric shapes and crisp lines, look sexy/hot? I am a flamboyant gamine with very light coloring and a sweet looking type of face. Everything about me reads as not sexy. Short arms, large, round eyes, small lips, wide shoulders, narrow hips, flat bust/butt, very white skin, blonde hair, apple cheeks… Is there any way for girls like that to look sexy?

I personally think gamines can be sexy, their sexy styling is just not what you’d immediately think. I mean, I’ve seen Lady Gaga and Tina Turner and stuff look really bold/dangerous sexy for sure. And my best friend, who is a soft gamine, always looked really cool in leather jackets and smudged eyeliner. I also think one of the KZread trainers I work out with is a flamboyant gamine, and in one of her videos she was wearing something a bit more punk-looking, color blocked, with smoked out eyeliner. My sister and I agreed that’s definitely a really sexy look for her. I think more edgy clothing, but not oversized or shapeless, is a really good idea for gamines. Especially a sharp shoulder on a fitted jacket and maybe a miniskirt with some stiletto booties. I think I saw a photo shoot with Jenna Coleman dressed like that once ^^ hope this helps!

Truth be told it is very dificult to mirror oneself in people size 0 or 2, cause they are all skynny and in my type, (soft classic) they don't seem to add that extra softness and flesh I expect in comparison. I'm sure that I'm soft classic because other indicators and because comparing to my skinnier self I know I looked exactly like that, but you gain a couple of sizes and you get more flesh and think... maybe I'm Romantic or theatrical romantic. I need to remember that I don't have much in common with them except I have more shape cause my weight evenly distributes except my waist that is always a little behind . and because of my face

I'm a bit overweight (BMI somewhere around 30, for reference) and I'd place myself as a soft natural. Due to my weight, I look softer than perhaps the typical soft natural, but like I know what is extra fat and what is not. In some areas I can feel more bone than others. My shoulders are very straight, wide and angular despite having some extra fat pads, my hip bones being angular makes their roundness still kinda square. I still have a defined waist. But mostly I see my yang in my shoulders and face. Also, knowing what I looked like when I weighed less helps. I could probably be wrongly accused of being a romantic if it wasn't for my shoulders and hips width being way out of line for a romantic. Also I'm too tall for that type. Another thing, I think it might be easier to find your body type when overweight when comparing your body to other overweight people instead of to skinny people. Same vice versa for very skinny people. Because I think our body types stand out the most when compared to that of another person of similar size to us, but not the same shape. Our proportions tend to follow as we gain or lose weight; what was big when we were thin usually remains bigger in proportion to the rest when we're overweight. And our skeletons always remain the same structure that everything else sits on. So... for example an overweight dramatic would most likely still have very broad shoulders and undefined waist which an overweight romantic wouldn't have, while an underweight romantic would instead likely still have breasts, a defined waist and roundness to the hips which a skinny dramatic just wouldn't have. To me the Olsen twins then look like they could be naturals. Because they have that cinched in waist and rounded hips despite being so bony otherwise. That's what I experienced when I was underweight; hip roundness and defined waist simply not budging. However, mine even more so. So the Olsen twins are not as yin as me, but otherwise same bone structure from what I can tell, and I'd say they have more yin than flamboyant naturals. They may be short, but they look too broad and pointy, and not child-like enough to be gamines, imo. So basically, in regards to underweight people, I'd focus on the areas that are softer or curvier than the rest, and how soft/curved these areas are for that weight. For overweight people I'd instead focus on the areas that are notably broader (even if with extra padding) and/or undefined. Taking myself as an example, when I was underweight I still had a defined waist and rounded hips despite being just skin and bones elsewhere, and when I'm now overweight, I still have sharp, broad shoulders and an angular frame, despite the extra fat. This is because my proportions and basic structure do not really change. What's yang about me is always broad and angular, what's yin about me is always rounded or defined. The shape of my hips and the angle of my shoulders do not change.

I think I'm a soft gamine, but I look curvier than Olsen sisters: even though they look slraighter, I weight like 5 kilograms less and I'm a few inches taller (5'2-5'3), my hips are broader and my thighs are fuller, and same thing happens with my breasts. However, my legs are slimer and even shorter. I guess that we all have our own particularities. I'm a mestiza and that may make a difference too.

It took me ages to figure out that I'm a soft dramatic, because in my mind they're like very lush Sophia Loren/Sofia Vergara type of physique. And I felt way to flat and skinny compared to those gorgeous women. I also have a gamine essence which was misleading as well. It wasn't until I saw some videos that I took with my friends and realised I'm definitely not among the petite types (I'm also 170cm but, thought it wasn't tall enough 🤦🏻‍♀️😂), so I tried different IDs and SD just hit differently. My style doesn't really resonate with the SD vibe but, honouring my lines first before adding some gamine elements created a lot of difference. So I would definitely recommend taking some videos from a chest height instead of pictures if you're still confused about your type 👍

What makes the olsen soft and not dramatic/flamboyant, is that they look like they shouldnt be so skinny. Their skinniness isnt natural. As opposed to other celebrities like Zendaya who is naturally skinny but doesnt look horrible because of it

Seems because ppl who are skinny and perhaps underweight call ppl who aren't overweight instead of thick because they think they're better. News flash to all the commenters here who talk as if Ashley graham is unhealthy.... overweight can actually be healthier than underweight. A doctor told me this... When you get sick and are skinny your body has no reserves.....so you can get even sicker than an overweight person...and body type matters...overweight pear is healthier than overweight apple because the fat is in the butt not near the heart........I'm technically overweight And have a pear shape..men have shown me off to their friends etc and spent lots on me..ignorant women who ARE jealous because they live them life thru enjoyment restriction and fear based on what society tells them...would assume otherwise that only broke embarrassed men want thick women.....thinking skinny is always better and saying overweight rather than thick but using skinny instead of underweight shows you ppl who talk this way think you're better. Yea...we shall see what happens when the skinny persons body runs out of fuel real fast if they get sick ....all skin and bones ....the body only withers more.....

So, can you be more specific about Grace Kelly's height, weight, waist to hip ratio, bust/breast to cup size? You didn't have a choice? You did have choices but chose not to state why you made her your choice. The Olsen sisters are not straight? They are soft? Their faces are oval, they have striking eyes and they are careful to choose hairstyles that are unstructured and minimize the sides of their forehead and cover their ears. They also are very controlled in their facial expressions and smiles (Botox?), never showing much teeth nor cheek displacement. It would be interesting if you were to choose alternate women of different body types, i.e., Asian, North Africans, Weat AfricansSouthern European, Middle Eastern, Han Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Northern Asian, South East Asian, Polynesian, etc.. You will have more choices once you educate yourself about these body types and would make more sense. Understand, beautiful women come from all parts of the world, not just those that one is familiar with and actually all of us are a wondrous combination of uncountable characteristics. One might look at Grace Kelly and think "beautiful". Yet another could look at her and think "unremarkable". Most might look at her and think "well groomed and well maintained". Also, to many she may seem short waisted. Please consider opening your worldview.
