    Adorable parakeet! We had one for 11 years. He was smarter than most people I know and he also loved stones. LOL. I discovered different pellets for birds after he passed which is sad as if I could've gotten him to eat them he'd have lived 2 times longer. We only found one brand and he hated it, though. Random but yeah.

    Hey! This is super informative and interesting! I love black stones and I have one that I'm having trouble identifying. It's a small faceted obelisk shaped pendant, it's fairly opaque but has some faint transluscent bands upon a closer look (which become more visible under a light). It's got a few nicks, which appear reddish. I don't dare scratch it with a quartz just yet, though I did get it for cheap. Any ideas?

    Very helpful, thank you! We found what I thought was obsidian on our property. Your samples, explanation and scratch test confirmed that it is indeed! Also, the non-broken side of the raw rock has bubbles on the surface from where the lava had cooled, which was another big indicator for me.

    I've found black, brittle, shiny rocks on a river bed. Every year the water is turned off at Elephant Butte, New Mexico. This causes the Rio Grande to go bone dry for the winter in Las Cruces, New Mexico. I love to walk on the river bed with my dogs. I've found these rocks I've described. I have purchased black tourmaline tumbles, spheres that are flawless and polished to perfection... 🧐 I still doubt that they are tourmaline as the other real and polished tourmaline stones I have are definitely not perfect at all yet beautiful. However, none of the other black stones come close to the unique beauty of a real black tourmaline even with its wrinkles, cracks etc.

  • @YeOldeRockShop

    @YeOldeRockShop

    Black tourmaline it not normally faked as there is quite a lot of it and it is fairly inexpensive. When we talk about the stones hardness it is more about how easy it is to scratch rather then how hard it is to break. Due to how Black tourmaline grows you can get pieces that are fairly fragile when dropped or when pressure is applied, but will still scratch glass. If you would like to email a picture to info@jacobstrading.ca I can take a look at it for you.
