How To / How I :: McCalls 7974 Sew-Along :: Part Two :: Sewing and Fully Lining The Bodice

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hey Peeps! Today I'm starting the bodice for the M7974 sew-along. I love this dress so much. The first one I made was lovely but I really didn't like the construction method that the pattern instructions ask for....so I made this mustard floral and lined the bodice entirely which I LOVE!! If you want to follow along with me you will need to cut :
2 Yokes
2 Bodice Backs
4 Bodice Fronts
4 Bodice Midriffs
You will NOT need to cut the front bodice facing.
You can cut the skirt panels as described on the patterns pieces.

Hi Sian, thank you for this tutorial! Have you made this dress with a sheer fabric like the one pictured on the pattern? Seems like it would hang quite differently from the thicker cotton's you've used? Did you say you would suggest a fine cotton or viscose? What fabric do you think is used in the picture on the pattern? Thank you! Rose

I've made it in cotton lawn, cotton poplin and a couple in viscose. I like them all for different reasons. I think the fabric used on the envelope could be something like a cotton voile but I'm not 100% sure. I hope that helps 😊

I was wondering how you'd interfaced the button plackets, and it makes sense now when you interfaced the midriff pieces. For the latest one you're making (the one where you've raised the centre front), are you just interfacing the centre front section of the placket please? I'm guessing the interfacing would only need to be about 2" wide. Thanks very much! Lynne

I haven't interfaced the upper neckline of my latest 7974 but you totally could put some interfacing in around the buttonhole area. 😊

@@KittenishBehaviourSian Ah, so there mustn't be a buttonhole in the top bodice bit. That would make sense. 😃

I was bad and put a buttonhole in un-interfaced fabric 😬 It worked but I think I will add a little interfacing next time just to be sure 😊

I made a mccalls 7974 with sleeves but have fabric ready for another one without sleeves. I was really worried about how to get a good result with nicely finished edges etc but this tutorial is definitely the way to go! I would not know how to fully line the bodice myself and this is really helpful! (in my first version the midriff to the bodice connection is really messy due to the sharp corners and fully lining also bypasses that problem completely haha). I am only unsure about how you to the last bit with the side seams because you go really fast through it and I do not see completely what you attach to what.. But I hope it gets clear when I am on it myself (I find it hard to visualize these things until I am on it myself)... Anyway this looks sooo helpful and I will use it when I start the project for sure!

Hey 😊 if you are adding sleeves to yours have a look at the Part 4 video which talks you through sleeves and lining the bodice kzread.info/dash/bejne/pWWop7Gombuuns4.html 😊 Hopefully it's not too quick but let me know if you have any more questions 😊
