If it's stripped, there are ways to fix it if you have to, like a Helicoil rethread kit, but with something like an oil tank, it's probably just easier to replace the tank. They are relatively inexpensive.

Partzilla, I have a 2004 400ex that I just did a complete rebuild on. About a month ago I rounded the head on the engine drain bolt and wasn’t able to remove it. I have recently gotten the bolt out and ordered a new one. The new bolt I purchase didn’t come with a crush washer, but it has a o ring around the end. Is the crush washer necessary? Or would the o ring work just fine? Any feedback is nice and I would really appreciate it.

Hello Jarrett. I most cases a ticking noise at idle indicates that you my need a valve adjustment. Here is how to do it! kzread.info/dash/bejne/c3ej0NyQpKueds4.html

A valve adjustment or your timing chain and if it’s your timing chain you best get it fixed soon or it could jump and you’ll send your piston into the valves which will toast your engine

How often should you change the oil in a 400ex?

The Honda manual says every 100 hours. I prefer to over maintain so I would do every 50 hours or so. Just to be safe.

Honda recommends the GN4 oil. You have the option to upgrade to HP4, as well.

I just changed my oil on my 05 400ex for the first time and when I took the oil filter off I noticed there was no spring. Where could I get one of these?

It's fairly normal with these motors, as long as it isn't knocking really hard.

It's the oil that Honda shipped it with and recommends. The upgrade would be www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/honda/HP-08C35-A14W0M.html
