HOW TO HOLD A GOLF CLUB CORRECTLY - Golf Swing Basics

Golf Swing Basics - How to Hold the Golf Club Correctly
Danny Maude shows you how to hold the golf club correctly
Can a simple grip change help you to hit driver straight, stop your slice or strike you're irons?
The answer of course is yes!
I've seen slices disappear with one small tweak to a golf grip and just recently one of my students Beverley added 15 yards to her drive by moving the golf grip more into the fingers of her lead hand.
Now you and I both know that grip changes aren't going to work for every golfer, In fact there are some wonderful golfers that play with unorthodox grips but....and it is a big but, these players are rare.
The majority of the best players on the PGA tour or at your home club will usually have a very standard golf grip. Why? Because a great golf grip will help you:
- Square the club face and improve your impact position
- Help you use the wrists correctly in the swing
- Help you swing the club with much more freedom and therefore power
When things go off in my own game the very first thing I will go to is my grip. It's the simplest thing to change and although I know the change is going to feel a little uncomfortable, I also know it will be worth it.
So if you have time go and watch todays video. Yes the subject isn't as exciting as how to blast your ball 300 yards down the fairway but in my opinion a great grip can literally be a game changer.

ABOUT DANNY
-----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On KZread and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

I'm 77 years old and took up golf again after quitting golf over 45 years ago out of frustration. I've taken some lessons and watched many online videos. I recently began watching your videos and they have quickly helped me. This video on the grip is simply awesome. Your style of communications, terms, examples and relaxed teaching style are superb, which in turns allow me to understand the many things I've been doing wrong. Its going to be a long journey for me, but your free instructions are helping me immensely. Tks/Steve.

I've been playing golf for 10 years and consistently shoot in the low 80s, but I have never felt comfortable with my grip. I have watched tons of grip videos and always thought I had a good neutral grip based on copying those. I tried what you suggested at 8:00 and wow I FINALLY feel natural swinging the club, like I can release the club head square without manipulating the club face on the down swing! How is it no other grip videos explain this concept?!?!

Danny, I just had to thank you for your video's. I only play 9 holes once a week and never go to the range. I watched your effortless swing video and how to hold the club. By changing my grip to your method I just shot a 45 for 9 holes. The week before I had shot on the same course a 59. That is so much of an improvement! Thanks, again Dave from New Jersey!

Great reminder of how important it is to grip the club correctly. I’ve been working on my grip since lockdown one because I just didn’t feel comfortable with club in hand. I went back to basics (GPS) and practiced a lot having watched some of your older tips for Senior golfers. My whole game has changed for the better and my confidence with every club is so much more positive. I’ve saved this video Danny so I can go back and check my grip regularly. I’d finally like to add that for me holding the club correctly has also worked wonders on my stance and posture. They all go together properly now. My whole set up feels so much better and I’m hitting the ball further and straighter with every club. Thanks Danny.

I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate this video. I am taking up golf after a 40 year hiatus due to an automobile accident. I'm now 67 and have been having a terrible time hitting the ball correctly and getting a decent loft with a 7 iron. I watched this video and followed your grip recommendations which are not much different from what I was doing, but it was a great improvment. I also shifted my weight to my left side. With my swing, which is not very powerful, I made sure my hands were leading the head and I had a much better performance hitting at the range. I got good high hits which were going about 100 to 125 yards. Much, much better.

Danny, I don't often post, but have to THANK YOU for this video. I watch a lot of them and they are quite helpful, but this one in particular made a world of difference with my hits and golf game. I am crushing my drives, irons and woods like never before, and (more importantly) NO MORE SLICES!! 280 yard drives. Due largely to the "firm grip", as you say. Clearly, i was holding it wrong, (too open) and my set up was off. The firm grip on the left hand, square to the ball, and correct angle follow through was really what was needed in my game. Yesterday shot a 93 (missed a bunch of putts), but hitting more than half the greens in regulation was such a great success. - thank you so much

Hi Danny, Just wanted to Thank You for all you do... Firstly, your videos are great! Direct and to the point without a lot of fluff. Secondly, I started playing golf two years ago and when I say that I mean really taking it seriously, and last year I went from hitting... don't laugh... 120-130 to hitting in the 90's after watching your videos. The 90's weren't good enough and I was still struggling with my irons. Yes, studied more of your iron videos and got better but still wasn't good enough. Watched another video you made about hitting irons and this video about changing my grip; something I didn't want to do at the beginning of the season... The Results at the range last night were unimaginable. I am hitting my irons with amazing grace and the grip change is even improving driving the ball, straighter, and 20-40 yards farther. I can not thank you enough. Playing 9 holes tomorrow and can not wait. Thank you and keep doing what you are doing.

You are right in saying that a small adjustment in the grip can make a difference. I am a beginner, 63, and after watching this realized I had a weak grip. It seemed I was getting the same distance no matter what club I used, but after making the simple adjustment to a stronger grip I am getting some distance and direction. I am on my way! Thank you.

I've always been told my grip was OK but I was "palmy" based on this video. Changed it - and it's made a huge difference. When I'm addressing the ball, now I make sure I can feel the club balancing between the index finger and the bottom pad. I waggle the club a bit to check. It's added a noticeable distance to my drives, I'm hitting my pitches straighter and I'm hitting the ball harder with more confidence. I can't believe such a tiny change could make such a difference. The proof - I won the Club comp for the 1st time in my life on Thursday. Can't wait to get out again today. Of all your trainings this, for me, is the winner. Thank you so much.

I like that you provide the basics where it can be easily understood. Now, the grip was one of my problems, then the next is alignment. Hi Danny. Thought my grip was ok but my left hand was gripping exactly as you described with the club going though the middle of my palm. I just took your new grip to the driving range and wow! At first it felt like I had no power at all but after a few shots it really clicked and the club head took over. All of a sudden my shots were straighter and no loss of distance. Too early to declare victory but very confident this will improve my game. Thank you for the great content

What a wonderful end to a terrible year of Covid-19, thanks mainly to your lesson on the Grip. I had 41-pts to finish 4th overall out of a field of 115 players and en6ded up winning C-Grade. My partner and I finished 6th overall in the 2BBB with 46-pts the winners had 49-pts and 43-pts in the Single Mens-Nett. My playing group have nick named me "Danny-Jay". I have mobility problems Left-leg Apputee & right-leg Quadrasept reattached. My playing partner "Muzza" was world-champion in the transplant games in France in 2003. He is well known in GB transplant circles and was the Austtralian Flag Bearer. Like me he has circulation problems in his leg and needs a cart to get around, I'm lucky that I can still walk the course. Danny, thanks also to your lesson on bunkers.
