    My buddy is a Canadian on the other side of the river back home. His Grandpa played till he was 85 in the men's league... Go as long as you can! Way to go! Just remember when getting back to switch your brain over to sliding first... get those edges sliding .... then you can worry about digging and stopping later.

    For beginners, go with a 5/8" sharpening instead of the typical 1/2" radius. The 1/2" will give you too much "bite" and that's where the fear of falling comes from.

  • @DuPrawPowerskating

    @DuPrawPowerskating

    Good call and great point. We used to rub our freshly sharpened steel on wood to dull it up when there was a stopping lesson. This would definitely help with the sliding across the ice instead of such a sharp bite. Thanks Ciscoho!

  • @Ciscoho

    @Ciscoho

    2 жыл бұрын

    For most players at any age learning the 2 foot stop, it's the biting action that makes them afraid of catching an edge and falling. As a result, they fight the lean, stand back upright and naturally lift the back skate and/or go into a one-foot or pizza stop. Thus they never fully learn the 2 foot stop.

    I will work making a video for on-ice drills, but check this one out that most people miss. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fmh5ysSKg8a2Y7Q.html A lot of edge work comes from ankle control and strength. Current hockey boots are so stiff when tied really tight players learn how to lean body weight, but not ankle control and flexibility.

    I hear ya! I always tell players that one side is going to come quick and then "my left" is the slow kid in math class. Takes longer...needs more communication and slow it down. Get away from thinking about stopping and try to slide first. You can even practice and try to get the right pressure and control with your left on a slide board. Good luck and thanks for watching! @@snowcat96 the problem some players do coming back is working on both instead of independently. I would suggest working on sliding with the left only for a bit until you get the feel back and keep working on stopping with 1 then add the other skate later! Good luck!

    Hopefully this will help as there are many variables and I haven't seen video on your stops....it can be one of the following....too sharp and non dominant ankle is not strong enough or communication is not strong enough with muscle memory. Too much weight , pressure, focus on complete stop and think more slide first before you stop. Get on a neutral flat edge and not inside or outside. Look at ankle flexion and how you tie your skates. Without seeing how you stop it and body mechanics...it could be numerous things.
